Not true in most of the U.S. states anymore. As a rule , you accept the child and you are the legal father in terms of support, etc.
yep, I'm not sure how far it's actually been pushed in practice, but the Washington state law says if you resided in the same place for any amount of time, there is no other guy already on the hook for the kids support and you've developed an "emotional bond" with the child you can be made to pay child support. technically speaking if you spent the night, she don't know who his dad is , and she can coach the kid to stand up in court and say "he's my daddy", you're screwed.

I'd also never start dating (or making any sort of advancement in the relationship) a pregnant woman. their hormones are so out of control that they aren't even the same person as they would be otherwise. you have no way of knowing who you'll end up with when she returns to whatever passes as normal for her.
I'd be careful, make no commitments or anything that could be construed as a promise until things settle down. and if nothing else be damn sure to keep my own place.
