Okay, fine. I'll discuss...

I wonder if I am the only one who finds this sort of dismissive, arrogant, 'throw something on the table and give me material to counter-punch with, since I have no original ideas of my own' approach to a conversation grating and annoying?

Please educate me. Is this 'ABC... discuss' thing from a TV show or a movie? Is it considered clever or funny? I'm serious here, because I really don't get it. Do people talk to each other like this now in your part of the world?

The man has a point. The Dead was more about a mood and a movement than the music. Ahh, but what a mood. :D

I saw 'em once in '94 Eugene Oregon. It was a beautiful sunny day, outdoor venue, temp was about 72F. Good times.

Only band I have ever seen that sounded better live than on their studio stuff.

As a musician, I never "got" the Grateful Dead.  I find their music to be repetitive, unimaginative, and boring.  Any music that requires the listener to be on hallucinogenics to enjoy...

That's just my opinion though. You know what they say about opinions.

my quote in my college yearbook...

"What a long, strange trip it's been."

alllll music requires the listener to be in some sort of drug-induced state.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.
I'm not perfect, but I am closer to it than you are.

then again 98% of anything done by the Beatles doesnt require any great gutarwork either.
But they were also mildy successful.

LOL your post reminds me of the kid guitar player in the Sequal to "Eddie and the Cruisers"

Its not about how well you can do it. or how well you know it. or even how complex it is.
Its about they lyrics and the sound and having a good time.
And if you can convey the having a good time and a sound, then the other can  almost be an afterthought.

For me though, the best music the dead put out was their more folksy stuff.

"Ripple" GREAT Tune
"Friend of the Devil"
Immediately come to mind.

Regretably I've never been to a Dead concert. From what I can tell from bootlegs they were a better  studio band then live sound wise.
but live they conveyed this  "screw it, lets just have a good time and party up" Atmosphere

and if you can create that kind of atmosphere and convince the audiance that your there to have a good time and that they should join you. thn youcaould have a bunch of hienas howling and the audiance will groove to it.
LOL

Probably about as annoying as people who butt in to and be critical of a thread they decide they dont like how it was presented rather then ignoring it.

Not intending to sound sarcastic but all musicians I've met or been around usually share the common thread of having an almost weird appreciation to all music. No matter how terrible it sounds to the rest of us.
