Thanks again for the comments fellas. Glad folks are enjoying it!
Wilbus:
I used all of the following:
AH Film Viewer - camera angles and camera shots
Fraps - capture vid clips from AH films
Virtual Dub - clip editing (filters, crops, etc.) and compression
MS Movie Maker 2 - assembling clips into a production
There's a good tutorial on simhq that goes through the use of these tools (albeit written more for IL2):
How To Make Your Own Simulation MoviesFrom a compression standpoint it's a multistage process I go through.
(1)Clips edited in Virtual Dub saved in raw uncompressed AVI
(2)Final full production in MS MM2 saved in raw uncompressed AVI (for Mustang Rhapsody ~ 1.3 GB I think)
(3)Hi-Res version - production raw AVI compressed using XVID mpeg4 codec and processed through Virtual Dub. Result is an xvid compressed AVI file (1.3 GB --> 225 MB).
(4)Med-Res version - production raw AVI compressed using MS MM2 with it's built in windows media mpeg4 v2 codec. Result is a wmv file (1.3 GB --> 33 MB).
And the nice part...
Fraps is shareware - have to pay for it but really reasonable.
Virtual Dub is free!
MS MM2 is free if you have Windows XP!
Hope that helps!
