It's not quite from the same angle as the other F/A-18 vapor bubble pic we've all seen, but this one is still spiffy!  It was taken by one of the ladies I work with at the Blues show at Pensacola Beach (today I think it was, mighta been yesterday that she got the picture.)

Plane doesn't have to fly +Mach1 for that. Air density and humidity are biggest factors afaik.

Staga, you are an "owl" like me, writing to a BBS at 6 AM  :)

Blue Angels are a good aerobatics team, but they fly specialy tweaked planes and in group pilotage keep a big distance, maybe 3 times more then Russian Knights, who fly combat Su-27s.

BTW, anyone planning to visit a Moscow airshow in August? Please, drop me a line!

Staga, I drink coke with pure alcohol.

Drinking pure coke is pretty stupid  :)

I'd prefer apple wine too, but it's not sold here in Moscow  :) And i'm bored of beer  :)

Yeah Cider rocks.. It tastes more like Sprite than white wine.. Bubbly, fresh and very easy to drink.

I just came back to home, I took my friends Moto-Guzzi for a little ride.
There's nothing like V-2 roaring 8000rpm thought my hands are still numb from those vibrations   :D

Guess its time to have a drink  :)

Have a nice weekend !

No way.

This effect is caused by going just under the speed of sound.  The airflow on parts of the plane is faster than the flow in other parts.  You'll notice the effect occurs on the downside of the wing and behind the canopy... where air will be moving faster.  The airflow that is faster than the speed of sound can cause this effect.
