The problem with those ASSUMPTIONS about glare is that you are ASSUMING that the pilot is STARING DIRECTLY at the sun. If you are actually flying an aircraft, even almost directly towards the sun, you do not necessarily look directly into the sun. You might look towards the nose at the bottom of the windscreen, or anywhere else slightly off center. At least I do, when I get the rare chance to fly.

Right, but that spot where the sun is, and those several degrees around it are blinding.  And you vision, even while using a visor is severly impared with or without sunglasses.

In AH just as in real life you can move your head over a bit and get the sun behind a bar in the canopy pretty easily and it instantly restores perfect vision (far better than real life would).

Kurt:  Why, what a polite, adult response.  Thanks ever so much for the "retarded" comment.  Both respectful and a useful contribution to a discussion.  Frankly, I care what HTC might think about implementing the idea.  I don't give a damn what you think.

To the rest....Thanks for the photos...they were exactly what I was thinking about when I mentioned the idea.  Sure sometimes you can alter your direction, or move around the cockpit and use support bars, etc...but, I don't like those workarounds very much.  Seems reasonably simple to code a tint into the image to simulate sunglasses, and perfectly realistic as the photos show.  Besides, both solutions were real.
PS, MachNix...love the catch there, bud.  Very good point!

As for how often it's a problem...well, I like to spend time in GV's, and you can really get stuck with a sun problem if your only avenue of approach is East or West.  Or perhaps a long buff mission...you can certainly get stuck looking at the glare for awhile.  And it makes my eyes hurt...which is WAY too realistic for me!

Anyway, I know the usual reasons for not  being able to pursue an enhancement, but this one seemed kinda simple and useful.  Dont' get me wrong...I don't want the low sun or glare to go away from the game...just a a reasonably realistic way of coping.

No problem baby, ask again anytime.

But seriously, ok, I jumped into you over-zealously... sorry... Point is, glasses aren't going to matter. Sunglare is harsh and in real life what you do is either turn the plane or your head.

You'd need a welders helmet to fly straight into the sun, and then you'd still be blind from the darkness of the lens.

Kurt...Go find another threat to piss people off...Sunglasses may be "gamey"....But so are 1000 other things about this game...If you dont like the idea of sunglasses, then you dont have to use them if they are ever enabled...okay?  Stop putting people down, and let us have our request...It's HTCs opinion that matters...Definately not yours

German planes had tinted gunsights which could be applied during flight (they were behind the gunsight I believe)
Would be a nice addition :)

The K-14 gun sight used on late model P-51D's had a sun filter that could be flipped up behind the reflector.

Kurt:    Call it done...

While I understand the opposing point of view, I still just don't see what the big deal is.

Gamey?  How are dark lenses/visors gamey, when you can see a thousand pictures of guys wearing shades back in the day?  Why didn't they turn the plane, or duck their head or "use the bars"?  Cause it works, but it's a big PIA.

I simply imagine a toggle which would dim the screen a bit.  Are we imagining something else?  More complicated?  Sure, it's just a convenience, but what's the real problem?  If someone didn't like 'em, don't use 'em.

I normally would be all over something too "gamey", but this seems like a simple view modification...not "god mode".

In the end, it's just an idea, and just an opinion.

And I still hate the damn glare.
