sorry Bud. I just dont see how any of us can make asumptions as to what, why and wherefors in regards to this film clip. I for one am not going to say what he could have done. Im sure there are many factors involved. didnt look like the run of the mill Heli either. Looked like one that would have required more than a general license to fly. All the same...good clip...and soilid reason enough for me to stay outa the damn things. (No glide factor) :D
DJ229 from our squad is or was a Heli pilot. Currently he is a Commercial Airline Pilot.  Wonder what he would say?

that pilot was stupid and should have put her on the ground as soon as he headed down the street.

How about crank up the collective and get out of trouble, instead of trying to fly that thing down a street.  I'm mean I hate to second guess any pilot under dangerous circumstances, because things fall apart so fast and even the smartest guys can get in to trouble.

Morph you read No Visible Horizon you should understand even the best and smartest pilots are not immune to bad and stupid things happening. :aok   BTW when you gonna give that back.:D

Great clips tho!  That poor bastard in the Cessna.  God that had to suck!

Reminds me of the stories where guys have an engine failure, nurse the plane dead stick to the airport, usually at the limits of the best glide, get the plane over the runway and land only to realise the scraping metal sound is because - after doing everything perfect - they forget to put their gear down.

YOu're right about that Mars. Also that book is the ****..... Best, craziest book I've read.

One thing they talk about is how to lessen the chances of fatal errors by using your noodle. Taking a chopper down a crowded street... Crowded with people, and trees, and light polls, oh yeah and cars... Is not using your noodle.

Its amazing how fast things can go from good, to bad, to worse. I got a small taste of bad with you showing me the ropes of aerobatics. Man was I good at getting us into inverted spins or what?! :D but never saw the worse, god willing I never will.

I dont know, some things just bother me I guess. Like taking off in a cessna and not checking to see if you have enough clearance for your wings to make it half way down the street. Wouldnt you want the cars to be completely away from the road? rofl...

Here's another example of stupid people doing stupid things.

Mugzee, I am a commercial Helicopter pilot. It really looks to me that he was over gross weight and possibly down wind as well.

Mars as far as yanking on the collective goes, if he was so heavy that he could barely hover in ground effect (which would make it impossible to hover out of ground effect), which looks like the case here, he just wouldn't have that option available.

That helicopter was flying straight to the scene of the accident as soon as he started moving forward. He should have put the machine back on the ground instead of trying to go down the street to get to translational speed. (Translational lift will happen at 15 to 20 mph).

At any rate from what I see, even if he had a clear run, it looked doubtful that he would have gotten truly airborne. He looked pretty heavy.

Morph, your right. Stupid is the word I would use too.

Just my humble $.02

cheers,
RTR

How does that saying go? "It's better to be down here, wishing you were up there, than to be up there, wishing you were down here?"
That's some profound **** right there.

clearly, as i suggesteds before, this is a murder and the old man was the victim.

now we just have to work out if it was the pilot, the chopper or the butler that did it.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.
