If you really do have a racoon problem, you don't have to kill everything that moves to solve it.
All creatures we consider pests follow just about one thing. Food.
No food around, no pests. Figure out what attracts them...the garbage for example? The fish pond, obviously. Remember, the smell will bring 'em in to investigate, so just securing the garbage won't keep 'em from lookin' around.
However, if you are able to simply modify the things that make your property strike the 'coons as a happenin' place...they'll just wander off.
Got some seriously big momo's around here, but they only show up to 'entertain' my dogs through the back window, then mosey on to my neighbor's house!
This advice also applies to bears, possum, mice, rats, etc...Whoever said think like a rat was right. Figure why they're there in the first place (which is almost ALWAYS food), eliminate it, and your problem self-propels elsewhere.
