What aircraft is this? (modern)
« on: December 21, 2005, 06:51:29 PM »

Snapped north of Bucharest. (not by me)

I'm trying to find out for sure what it is, since the guy who took the pic seems 100% bound and determined that its a ghost of a B-24. (and I'm not joking...)

Definately not a 24. It's a cargo ship with the squared off fuselage and ramp.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Maybe an Antonov AN-22?

Yeah, I pointed out all the ways it doesn't look like a B-24 to them. 4 bladed prop, turboprop engines, fuselage too wide, engine nacelles too deep, wing wrong proportions, tail WAY too wide...

The AN-22 was suggested, but the tail doesn't match, unless its been redesigned. The horizontal surfaces on the 22 extend past the vertical tails, but they don't on the pic I posted.

General concensus (among the non-superstitious) is that is a russian transport of some kind, but we can't find a definative answer.

Heres the AN-22 from a similar angle, notice the difference in tail assembly.

I'm thinking its a version with a redesigned tail assembly. Not only does the tail surface have a different look to it, but there is also some sort of a bump on the top, between the H-stabs. Thats not on the clearer image either.

Heck, if I didn't know better I'd almost think that it was a C-130 with a twin-tail. :-P

Dont think it is a An-22, on the An-22 the horizontal stab sticks out either side of the vertical stabs

ok after actually reading the thread properly this has already been pointed out ;)

If it had 4 motors a good guess would be the AN-38 with retractable gear (which it does not have!)

Looks more like a Herc with a modified tail than anything.

It eather russian, or a highly modified 130. the horizontal stab is in proportions 4 a herc, and i think the russians had an imitation 130.

Not a Herc, I live very close to a base full of 130s and that most definatly is not one.
