What about auto secondary switch?
« on: January 04, 2006, 04:25:10 PM »
What about automatically toggling to the next full secondary ammo load when your current one runs out. Several times I've peppered planes with pea shooters after dropping my DT because I didn't press the "select secondary" button hard enough on my stick, and didn't have cannons armed. It would be nice when dropping bombs if it switched to guns (or if you took bombs and rockets, it switched to the next option).

This would be nice in bombers as well, when dropping from the bombsite, so you can just keep dropping without selecting different loadouts (good for lancs and ju88s, which I like to fly).

Responses? Basically it's an automatic "select secondary weapon" execution when the last item in secondary is used up. If you run out of cannon it automatically will blank out that gun option to the no weapon status.

Only if I can turn it off.  I don't want to fire cannon rounds when I drop bombs and I don't want to fire my rockets when I drop bombs.

Map both primary and secondary to button one. Leave secondary also mapped to button two. Its not an auto select. You still activate secondary weapons like bombs and rockets and fire those with button two, but when you have cannons as secondary they fire when you want to fire primary weapons.

At least I think thats what your asking for.

I'm afraid I wouldn't want to toss my bombs at them if they are the next selection after DT...

While I'm sure we've all accidentally tired to fire our droptanks at people, I don't think I trust the program to interpret what I intended to do.  I'd rather have it as it is.

I'd rather see a setup like 1942 or EAW, where the guns, regardless of type, are the "primaries" and you can switch between firing modes (IE, in the case of American fighters with the Browning "Six Pack" the inboard four, the outer two, or all six) and ordinance by itself is the secondaries. That way you wouldn't have to worry about dropping ords/tank on accident when you go to shoot (did that the other day on a rocket attack, started strafing when I had my rockets selected :( ) or not having all your guns armed when you drop your tank.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I would rather that guns and cannon were not treated as secondary with bombs and drop tanks.

Primary (Guns and cannons)& Secondary(bombs and dt's) with

A) the function of "fire all" only refering to "all" primary weapons
B) the ability to select primary (as we have now on the P51 via "\") would toggle thru i)#1 primary ii)#2 primary iii) all primary
C)the ability to select secondary(as we have now via "BkSp") would work as we have now.(except it would be nice to drop mixed bomb packages from lancasters and ju88's with one key press. (/.salvo all) or (/.salvo 0)?)

I then have one button for guns (F and/or trigger) and one for bombs(B and/or a js button) with the ability to cycle thru both independently and choose "all" when considering guns.
