Buffs

I often attack buffs, and for several TOD's I've wondered if my Corsair is just too slow at 400+ mph on the dive towards a buff formation from a 3k alt advantage...or is my gunnery so bad that I'm not landing the hits I used to that would drop a buff in a single pass with 6 fifty calibers closing from 1.5 k at 12 o'clock high... to convergence at 275 yards... aimed at the cockpit and raking the wings from outboard to inboard towards the cockpit and imparting damage to engines as well as pilots.

In WWII, the United States Army Air Force suffered more casualties than the entire United States Navy and Marine Corps combined...and those figures were kept secret from the American public until well after the War.

I'm not a great buff killer...but me thinks something is askew here.

Then again they weren't diving on American buffs.
Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. Neither wisdom nor technique has a place in this. A real man does not think of victory or defeat. He plunges recklessly towards an irrational death. By doing this, you will awaken from your dreams.

Keep practise. Corsair is buff killer.

once corsair is 400mph + its an awesome diver...good speed and excellent control....If you really wanna be a major buff killer in a corsair fly the CHOG....Some of the deadliest 20mm's in the game....If your set on flying the .50 cal versions I think I know what your problem is....You start at the wing tips, and spray into the wing roots and the cockpit...although in real life that worked extremely well in AH it doesnt...concentrate your fire in a single area...I suggest empannage or wing root

Patches, you are only going to be at convergence range for a split second.  There is no way you can close on a target at 400+ mph, and rake both wings and the cockpit all at convergence.  For most of that "rake" you are either outside or inside your covergence setting.

Instead of "raking" the plane, concentrate on the wing root and engine.  Wing root you will likely take off a wing, concentrate on 1 engine and get flames, that engine will eventually explode and take the wing off with it.

My regular MA ride is the F-4U1 or F-4U1D, and I've killed plenty of buffs with those 6x.50's.

Brownings can be deadly with the convergence set up to 400yds. Star and Cav are dead right: concentrate your fire. Two seconds are (more or less) enuff to sew a wing.

we kill buffs in the MA just because of how annoying those furball porkers are.  my plane of choice is the 110.  buffs die easily especially if two guys are attacking them.
