i think its gotta be convergence...if you are dead one, you will score a kill...if not, maybe just a little damage, despite what hit-sprites you see

I wonder if the guns are mounted closer in to the fuselage on the U4, I have noticed kinda the same thing, to me all the corsairs .50's do more damage than the pony's. I'm just throwin this out I haven't researched it at all but maybe that has something to do with it

i've also noticed that the P40E's .50 cals seem to pack more punch than all the others

P40s guns have been very ineffective for me.  Only time I get good results is with conv at D200 and hitting the canopy.  My aim does suck though, so . . .

Is it possible the F4 has longer barrels?  Although, if the gun has enough power to punch a holl in the plane, does velocity really matter?

I got a sortie in the -4 earlier where I got to fly around for 20 minutes just shooting at things (flying things), without having to defend myself at all... I'm now absolutely convinced that the -4's guns are a-typical. It's like a shark with a lazer on its forehead. It didn't matter where I hit people, how far away I was, how clean the shot was, or how long I got hits.... everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, died. Just wouldn't happen in any other 50cal bird.

im quite sure that there is a difference in power

I'm talking the f4u-4, not f4f-4, and 16, not 6. :p

According to the Aircraft and Vehicle page, the F4U4 has the same guns (M2) as the P51, P40 and F4U1.

so many people have said that certain planes with 50cals are more powerfull that it now becomes an issue about a few planes possibly having weaker guns than the rest....

hmm, infact, between you all you have pretty much covered every 50cal fighter in the game.....kinda makes the solution obvious....don't it? :p

All of the .50s are Powerful ya just gotta know how to use em, Took on some 24s in an F4u-1D, Easy kill on first pass, .50s in the wing root and took less than 50rnds and it was down. Bout same for the other 2.:aok  **My point, .50s are all the same just More Deadly when you think they are more Powerful LOL**

a quick check you can do...

I've been testing the guns and getting the relative power of various guns. Do this off-line, set hardness to 1, unprotect objects, and set ammo multiplier to 10.

A P-51 and F4U-1D take 2374 rounds to kill a fighter hangar. If the -4 takes less, its guns are more powerful.  The .50 on a M-3 destroys the hangar with less rounds, so variables are accounted for. I'm not at home until Saturday, or I'd check it myself.

i thought so hammer, i was playing offline earlier today and flew the U4 around and I promise you, it's .50's have way more punch than the rest of the planes with a 6-gun .50 cal package. Just like Wetrat said, no matter where i hit the planes it took that section off like a chainsaw, I upped a pony and got the usual stuff, a few times cut the part off, others I just got an engine hit, same in a p40E and an F4F. Its almost as if they act like an 8 or 10 gun package, to me it feels like I'm blasting away with a jug. I had my convergance set at 300 on all the planes... Does anyone know if maybe the F4U4's guns were closer to the fuselage than the pony or even the F4U1D ? Just a shot in the dark

What about range? The 50 cal are more lethal the closer to the target they are.
