Read Bernard Fall's books if you have any doubt about French balls.  Of the thousands of volunteers parachuted as reinforcements into Dien Bien Phu during the siege,  over 600 of them had never jumped before.

Eagle Eye,

Dien Bien Phu was a battle that took place after WW2...1954 to be precise....in Vietnam.

Compare French casualties (~3M) in the 20th century vs. American casualties (~500k) and you might see why they have a different attitude towards war than we do.  And remember they only had about 1/4 our population for most of that period.  And there was that minor thing where they were occupied by the Nazis for 5 years.

Maybe they should have learned its better to nip things off at the bud instead of sitting back and profiting from humanities misery.

They declared war on Hitler 2 years before the USA did.  It cost them 500,000 men and 5 years of freedom.

They fought to protect Vietnam from communist agression 10 years before America did anything about it.  Americans cry about Vietnam dead... the French lost twice as many men over there.

They were the ones doing the "nipping in the bud" a lot more than the USA did.  Do you get it now?

They declared war on hitler because they had no other choice.  They could have held a more aggressive stance and not let him steal the Sudeten land but they let him run amok until it was more than obvious they were next.

Held the line against communism?  Or was it tried to hold onto their colonial interests resulting in the people rebelling and turning to communism.

I have no real beef with France per se but your spinning like a true politicion.

Rabbit, when your own country will be at war on it's own soil, and that some of your citizens will flamethrowed in the courtyard of your house, and some familly members will die from interogation, others will die from going to war with 5 bullets ... then only you will be allowed to voice opinions about cowardize.:p

Frenchy,

I have experienced war just fine thank you.  Unless you have put your life on the line then don't bother lecturing me.

KGB,

The US acted behind the scenes long before it got pulled into it.  Regardless, your point is pointless in regards to the subject.  I'm not trying to French bash since thats pretty pointless as well.  I am pointing out that the lessons learned are not always the best ones and that it crosses all nationalities.

I'm not spinning anything.  I just pointed out that your "nip" comment is not supported by the facts.  They acted earlier, and at greater risk, than the US against both the Nazis and the Commies.

We had 5,000 die in a blazing inferno. 9-11-01 we decided terioist had been on the offensive long enough. Per the NATO agreement France was supposed to view a attack on the U.S. as a act of war. Instead they sold more weapons to Hussain. Against UN regulations. Both trips to iraq i found that most of thier high tech weapons came thru 2 countrys Russia, And france.:furious

So the US was supposed to defend a french colony before the french
did?  Also Germany declared war on the US after Pearl, but don't let stray
facts get in your way.  Might want to read a book occasionally though.
