nasty mistake
« on: February 04, 2006, 01:35:37 AM »
I usually make a few dumb mistakes, but this one pisssed me off.

Bout 5 mins ago in MA i was flyin LA-5 and was havin a pretty good sortie, you know catchin lucky breaks landin difficult shots, havin a few kills. Anyway there was this 51-b givin me trouble throughout the time and finally as it came behind me I corkscrewed an fell in behind em. I landed a few 20mm's on it but only killed its fuel (I wanted to kill this guy) he is outrunning me an headed back to base, but i stick wit him. As he is 1.5k away he runs out of gas and is now deadstick in for the ditch, I realized this too late an over shot him. As i passed him up I watched him slide to a stop, Im upside down now over em watching to see him tower, but he doesnt.  So I decide to pull the nose down to get my kill, however instead of the nose pulling down It spun to the left (I WAS IN A FLAT SPIN 800 feet off the ground, C'MON! ) i try to get out of it but only manage to get the nose down and auger 20 feet away from him.  He probably was there laughin at me.

If you did somethin worse than that post it. (20 FRIGGIN FEET AWAY NOSE INTO THE GROUND!)

the other day a squaddie and myself were flying P51Ds up high near a62. we dive on a low hurricane, full speed near compression. My squaddie is 1.5k ahead of me and he shoot the hurricanes tail off, only to ram the blighter and explode, leaving the hurri floating down.

thinking i better snatch the kill instead of it going to proxy for someone in the furball below, i break hard to the left to ping him a few time and.....rip my wings off.

that sucked.

My biggest mistake is trying to fly PERIOD.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

My biggest mistake(s) have been flying the 262 and then diving 10k to help a squaddie being tailed by 3-4 enemies.

Every time I do it I overspeed and auger. And I don't learn.

Squad was leting the new guy get the capture on a long distance NOE. I was second goon. They got the town down in under 30 second. He used the terrain well for cover, but droped to low. I came in right behind him and did a vary styalish hammer head. Nice tight drop over the maproom. As my nose came back down and I began to circle the VEHICLE SUPPLYS hit the ground and stuck. Being far into enemy taritory meant no second chance. The insuing hord of laffing LA-7s hunted us down like dogs. Took a log time to live that one down.

Frankly......crashing while trying to vulch a ditched aircraft for no reason other than to chalk up another kill on your score is.....poetic justice.

There's no honour in this game anymore.

Lesee...

Frequently repeated Seagoon dumbnesses -

1) Taking off from vulched fields more than once
2) Flying to the enemy HQ, setting up for the perfect Lanc drop just seconds ahead of the pursuing horde of ME163s... and then Forgetting that the bomb bay doors are closed (3 times I've done that).
3) Forgetting that I've set Salvo to 8 or more and destroying 1 small strat with several tons of bombs after a long buff flight
4) Saddling up on an enemy a/c, having that perfect shot, pressing the fire button, and then hearing the "click" as my drop tanks fall free or the "whistle" as my bombs drop. I've collided with A/C after doing that on several occasions.
5) Turning off the engine at a critical moment while typing a word with "E" in it.
6) Always getting greedy at the vulch and hanging around for that last kill that I augured on.
7) Chasing enemy B-24s from behind and below (repeat, repeat, repeat) And continuing to fire while they are pinging me instead of breaking off.
8) Forgetting that I can no longer just safely run away from the new Spits in my LA5 and FW190A5.
9) Continuing to operate in areas where uber pilots are flying. Thus providing them a steady diet of free munch.

Some guy in an LA7, not sure if it was you, demo'd head 1st (looked like) right in front of me as I typed ".ef". I had a B51 missing parts, no gas and just skidded to a halt on the runway.. I was hitting the space to stop but had already had .ef ready... so I wasnt stopping.. the cursor kept ticking along to the right in the text box... I figured I'd get lit up rolling that slow.

Out of nowhere 'boom'... "you shot down so and so"

I had to run to the bathroom so I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to who it was, I think I got a few kills from that too.

I was engaged by an La7 and a P38 in a low and slow dogfight over the water, and was able to damage both before one of them removed my left wing. Luckily i was able to lower my landing gear and slide along the water to a stop.
I was thinking, these guys gave me a good fight and no one Ho'd so i just waited for one of them to finish me off.
First comes the LA7, shots fired, my right wing is gone, then the LA7 goes into the drink..
Next comes the 38, shots fired, all miss, and P38 goes into the drink..
