How to improve the NFL
« on: February 06, 2006, 10:59:42 AM »
1. Get rid of the "TV Timeout" and allow commercial breaks only after a score or between quarters.

2. Make the play clock 20 seconds.

3. Hire the officials full time.

4. Stop blackouts.

5. Overhaul free agency. The only constant on your team is the laundry.

Feel free to add to the list....

Make the salary cap an individual salary cap. Each player can get a maximum of $5,000,000 per year, starting out at $250,000 per year. Their salary will increase each year depending on how well they play.

No, make the max salary 1,000,000, and from there increase it depending on performance.

why punish the football players?

they do a more demanding job than any other sport, and are lesser paid already (compared to NBA and MLB) if it is legal to pay 1 baseball player a quarter of a BILLION dollars, you should be able to pay football players 2 times that.

i agree with some of sandman's, though the play clock thing may make the game seemed rushed too much. football is too short, as it is, i could live with watching games all week long like baseball personally (though i know players could not do that physically)

less pre-season, more games in regular season. make the season 18 or 20 games, with only 1 or 2 pre season.

There's roughly ten minutes of actual play during a three hour football game. A shorter play clock would mean more plays per game.

All teams should be required to run nothing but a hurry-up offense. Think fast or lose. More play, less talk.

WHY PUNISH THE FOOTBALL PLAYERS?  Are you ****ing serious?  They get paid more then anyone in the world to play a sport.  A sport.  A sport.  A sport.  They do nothing constructive for society by playing this sport.

Personally I''d like to see something like that. Add to that an entry level rookie salary cap. or better yet a salary wage.

You play your rookie year for X amount of dollars. After that you get an incentive laiden contract.

I dont see how they can justify giving someone who hasnt played a down in the NFL yet a contract larger then players who have earned their bones and are a proven commodity.

Oh and make it so players have to serve as their own agents. cut their own deals and make their own contracts

wtf are you talking about? Without sports we wouldn't have such fine examples of humanity, art, and courage displayed proudly for the world to see!

So should a rock star be prohibited from making a large salary because he gets to do nothing but play music all the time?

Yes.  It's very unfortunate that in this Country we pay someone **** loads of money just for being there.

It's a shame that everyone isn't paid according to how hard they work.
