Yeah, and they didn't use this during the '04 election....R  I  G  H  T

The Mayor of LA is pissed, hadn't heard a word of this from Washington nor his predessor.

Scotty got questioned on this today...

"is there something missing from the L.A. bombing story? The President said that someone was going to hijack a plane with a shoe bomb to fly it into a building. A shoe bomb implies that he would blow up the plane. How would he fly it into the building then?"

Scotty stumbled and abruptly ended the press conference.

the shoe bombs were to blow their way into the cockpit

maybe they haven't been publized as the bad would out weigh the good in releasing info of such events

of course we haven't foiled any terror plots since 911.... Bush just wants to take away your freedoms...

It ain't a friggin IQ test.  Back in the good old days of terrorism, Terrorists would take the plane somewhere.  I.E. You take this plane to Sudan or I'll blow it up!

However, these days it would be a little bit of an empty threat.  Or a double threat.  I don't know.

I.E. Crash this plane into so and so tower or I'll blow it up!

You've posted this in two threads, and I keep wondering who is Scotty and do you have a transcript of this you can refer me to?

Q: Scott, I wanted to just ask a follow-up about the LA plot. Is there something missing from this story, a practical application, a few facts? Because if you want to commandeer a plane and fly it into a tower, if you used shoe bombs, wouldn't you blow off the cockpit? Or is there something missing from this story?

MR. McCLELLAN: I don't know what you're referring to about missing. I mean, I think we provided you a detailed briefing earlier today about the plot. And Fran Townsend, our Homeland Security Advisor, talked about it. So I'm not sure what you're suggesting it.

Q: Think about it, if you're wearing shoe bombs, you either blow off your feet or you blow off the front of the airplane.

MR. McCLELLAN: There was a briefing for you earlier today. I think that's one way to look at it. There are a lot of ways to look at it, and she explained it earlier today, Alexis, so I would refer you very much back to what she said, what she said earlier today.

Sarah, go ahead.
Not his most wildly weasly, IMO. My favourite was always this one:

Q: Scott, last night, in an amicus brief filed before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Justice Department came down in favor of displaying the Ten Commandments in courthouses and statehouses around the country. The question is, does the President believe in commandment number six, "Thou shalt not kill," as it applies to the U.S. invasion in Iraq?

MR. McCLELLAN: Go ahead. Next question. Ken, go ahead.
Mmmm classic weasel action.

I agree!

Those dumb bellybutton reporters should be smacked for asking such stupid questions.

Bush is trying to excuse his actions with this....  I'm only wondering what does this case have to do with the wire tapping and laws that didn't exist back then when this happened? Apparently the old laws and lawful tracking of people worked just as well?

I'm no fan of McLellan, and in general I think he does a minimally acceptable job.  However, the Ten Commandments question is completely out of line and only meant to be provocative for its own sake.  He was right to move on to something that was actually relevant.

I agree completely.

McLellan has done much worse than that, and it was a stupid question.

Q: Who was in the staff meetings [with Abramoff]?

McCLELLAN: I dont get into discussing staff-level meetings.
