Random Questions about Offline play
« on: February 14, 2006, 11:01:47 PM »
Here are the questions I have...been experminting much but having difficulty.  Note: I play with a mouse.

1)  Some of the fighter aircraft let you equip rockets/bombs that you can equip on your fixed wings.  How do you fire these rockets/bombs...keyboard config does not seem to indicate this...just have access firing primary/secondary weapons which seem to correspond with machineguns/cannons...what about these special rockets/bombs weapons?

2) How do you prevent town buildings from respawning...i'd destroy one, then some time later it'll be built up again.  Bah!

3)  How do you save a game in offline play?

4) How do you pause a game in offline play?

Thanks folks!  This game has a nice fun factor to it and i'd appreciate any help learning it.

Regards,
Wolfe

Backspace selects your secondary weapons or stores, if loaded. This includes cannons, rockets, bombs, fuel tanks, troops, and supplies. If you go to setup on the clipboard, you can see what the key and button mappings for the various commands are.

Offline isn't a campaign or singleplayer game type. It's pretty much good for practicing gunnery and bombing, flying various aircraft etc outside the chaos that is the Main arena. Town buildings, hangars, gun emplacements etc automatically regenerate over a period of time, regardless of settings. These are all part of the more dynamic online style of play, and, while all can be destroyed, won't necessarily stay down. Anyway, there's no way to pause or save offline play. It's pretty much just a practice range.

If you subscribe to the game, ($14.95 a month for unlimited access to all of the arenas/events), you can request, and be assigned a trainer (there's a separate arena dedicated to training, as well as an actual living breathing training corps made up of players [some of whom have been doing this for a looooong time]), and receive basic instruction from them. It's pretty impressive.

No. :D

^^ what they said. :)

What hub didnt tell you: the first two weeks online are for free, you will only be asked for CC info later. That means you *could* come by the Training arena (TA) and all other arenas and check us out. Youre always welcome.

And yes, AH has a steep learning curve. This it what makes it such a great game ;). Ive been playing for over a year now and still learn something new every day.

Another thing.... youll find this game a whole lot easier if you get a Joystick. Doesnt have to be anything fancy for starters, a simple 4-button with hatswitch will be enough. If you *can spend about 30-40$ though, id recommend something that has also a throttle and rudder control - Saitek Evo or Thrustmaster are sticks that are cheap and good.

When you go on your clipboard to SETUP > ARENA SETUP > OBJECTS > Object Settings, you can change the downtimes and hardness of the various objects, if you want your buildings to stay down longer.

Also, if you want to practice gunnery, in ENVIROMENT > Arena Settings you can change the ammo multiplier for planes (PlaneGunAmmoMult on the list). That way you wont have to land so often for ammo. Fly the circle clockwise (opposite direction of the drones) and theyll be a lot harder to hit.

You can mess around with the different settings in offline mode there (SAVE will store the current settings, LOAD will bring saved settings back up, DEFAULT will set the settings back to TA settings)

Last but not least: Net Aces  is a good page with loads and loads of useful info to get you going. It also has a Quick reference (PDF) one page printout for keyboard commands.

Welcome to Aces High, Wolfe! :D
