After reading and responding to the I have evolved thread lets look at the issues in an adult manner.

Do bicyclist do rude and stupid things on the road? Yes they do and are subject to the same laws as those in cars.

Do people in cars do stupid things when they are behind a cyclist? yes they do.
But there actions can lead to a death so I see a difference.

I never have understood how and why people get there undies in a buch when they "think" they are stuck behind a bicycle.

I mean are you not the ones with a steering wheel and a gas pedal?

Average car on the road today has somewhere around 200hp.
Now if you cant find a safe way to go around a bicycle then you really need to
work on your driving skills.

Again i pose the queastion.
Is there anything or any reason that the few seconds you might be delayed by a bicycle that would condone acting like a fool to someone or injuring them?

Look I do not defend any rider who does not obey the traffic laws they should be punished like anyone else.

But when someone uses there car or truck as a weapon to intimidate someone on a bike they have crossed the line and really need to seek some help.

If this is someones total lack of respect for human life then then we have places for them: prison.

I obey all traffic laws when riding my bike and I try to use some common sense when and where i ride.

I DO NOT ride on small county roads that are two lanes there simply is not enugh room for me to safely ride even though it is legal to do so

I DO NOT run red lights as this is a darwin award in the making just plain ignant.

I DO NOT ride down the middle of the lane when riding alone as I only need about 1 foot on the right to ride.

I DO NOT take up the whole lane when riding in a group as it is rude and illegal to do so.

Texas Law states that we have the right to ride on public roads unless otherwise posted but we DO NOT have the right to impede traffic or to cause an accident.

It really is this simple show some maturity to others and maybe they will do the same.

There is nothing so important to me that I have to run someone off the road
it just aint worth it.

Besides the criminal court price you might pay there is also civil court to worry about.

One word can some up all the Laws we have on the books>>> common sense think before you act and think about the other guy too as his life is worth just as much as yours.

I always seem to find a bike on a corner with an oncoming car. If I ever get in a position where a bike is in my lane and Im in danger of a headon...the bike better be ready to go mountain biking. Bikes dont belong on the highway.

Yes.  And as a matter of fact, any time I see anyone on a bicycle who is outside of a bicycle lane, I run them over.  Only a few have escaped the deadly punch of my Ford Thunderturd, and for those I stopped and backed over 'em.  I'm getting tired of just running down cyclists all the time though, so I think I'm going to start targeting jaywalkers next...they're worth more points.  Actually, now that I think of it, maybe I'll just model my driving on Death Race 2000.

A couple of years ago, there were a bunch of ugly ladies who always walked down my road.  The problem wasn't that there were 3 of them, the problem was that they always walked 3 abreast, right down the side of the road.

I actually heard that one of the ladies got clipped by a car coming around a blind corner.

The way I see it, you should be in control of your car at all times and not speed through residential neighborhoods.  Watch out for cyclists and pedestrians, and do everything in your power to avoid hitting them.

One time a guy passed my car in a 30 mph residential zone and flipped me the bird as he passed (my neighborhood mind you).  As I pulled up to the red light about a quarter mile down the road beside this car, I matter-of-factly hung out the window and said while looking him in the eye "This is a residential area and the speed limit is 30 mph.  Slow down."  That's all I said...I wasn't pissed but was more like "don't speed in my neighborhood."  After the light changed, the guy literally started screaming at the top of his lungs he was so mad (as he drove off the other way).  We went different directions, but I could hear him screaming from a hundred yards down the road.  I wanted nothing to do with that crazy idiot, and evidently he didn't want to deal with me either.  I could tell what he was thinking as he pulled up to the red light...Oh Chit!!! :D

Btw, flipping a bird is illegal in Alabama in that situation (vehicles)...think it's called menacing or something like that.  I didn't learn that personally, but one of my friends did after a different event (and different circumstances.)  Cost him $500, and when he went to buy a hunting rifle for deer season about a year later, that incident came up on record and almost prevented him getting the rifle.

I wonder why lots of C-172's don't practice their instrument approaches at O'Hare from 5-7 PM every night.

Oh, wait... I know.

I've seen more County Sheriffs, State Troopers, and Local Police break more Motor Vehicle codes than I have.  Why are they above the law? They, technically, are under the same Motor Vehicle Code that I am.  Explain.

I find it funny that people buy "Mountain Bikes" with Rock Shox and ride on PAVEMENT.  I wish I had money to blow like that.

Finally, cyclists that BLATANTLY ride in the surface streets, divided highways instead of riding on BIKE PATHS (they are called this for a reason) or sidewalks.

Here in Metro Detroit we have "Hines Park", it has a 30 mile BIKE PATH, do the Lance wannabe, leotard wearing sissies use it?  No, they go in the road.  I enjoy making those sissies sweat, they BLATANTLY break the laws by crossing the shoulder and cross into the lane (I;ve already inquired on this with a buddy).   They know they are supposed to use the BIKE PATH, so I screw with them.   I'd love to see a biker flip me off, imagine myself in my gas guzzling, non-UN conforming exhaust emissioned SUV smiling and asking him where his gagball is to match his "uniform".

Then you are the exeption to the rule.
If all bicycle enthusiasts behaved the way you say you behave I would never have a problem with them.

Problem is. Around these parts 90% of the ones I see DO all the things you say you dont do.

I wouldnt even mind if they were on the country roads as I could easily see why they would want to be. For the same reasons I take the country roads whenever possible. If they would JUST learn to move to the right when cars and other vehicles come up behind them.

Around here, we have a huge group of complete MORONS who insist on riding their bicycles on the curvy rural roads with no shoulders. Only a complete and total fool would do that. We've already had one bicyclist horribly mangled because two cars met in a blind corner and they had nowhere to go, so one hit the bicyclist.

I've already taken a $150 stainless steel mirror clean off the side of my truck because an ignorant fool on a bicycle was on a road with no shoulders and two trucks met. Had I not taken the ditch, the fool on the bicycle would have been the hood ornament on a 4 ton truck. Instead, I lose a high dollar mirror, and the moron rides off on his damned bicycle scot free. They have NO BUSINESS on rural roads with no shoulders and blind curves. There are roads with LANES for the idiots, and there is also a multimillion dollar "greenway" the tax payers paid for, for the benefit of the bicyclists. They rarely use either. But I bet this morning, as I drive up to the farm, I pass a flock of those bicycling idiots at least once on the shoulderless curvy roads, and they are all over the road.
