What is your choice for vacation spot?
« on: March 02, 2006, 12:57:01 PM »

I think for me I would choose Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. I have not been there yet, but from all accounts it is one of the worlds most beautiful destinations.

My second choice would be Monument Valley Az/Ut . This goes back to the time when I was growing up and watched all those John Ford 'dusters' that were filmed here!

If $$$ were no problem, where would you like to visit?

Been to Lake Louise alot - great place in any season.

I would love to see Austria (I love the Alps).  But right now, I'd settle for the chance to make a con one of these days!

"Ordinary" vacations suck monkey balls; grab your Amex and go to some strange place.
I'be been thinking about Astrakhan just because it sounds neat. Also I gotta see another F-1 race in near future and also visiting Oktoberfest would be nice.

In no particular order, and take as much time as I want
1.  all the ghost towns in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and California
2.  The entire East coast from Maine down to Florida
3.  The Mediterranean, especially Italy, Greece, and Crete
4.  3 months in Europe, eating and drinking to excess
5.  United Kingdom
6.  Australia
7.  Mars

My favorite places that I've already been are Oahu and the Big Island in Hawaii.

If money was no object my three choices would be:

1) A tour of all the castles I could find starting in Ireland and moving my way southeast across the channel.

2) China.  The forbidden city, great wall and the out of the way country side where there are few to no tourists.

3) Taking a sailing yacht around the south pacific and exploring as many islands as possible.
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.

Toronto (assuming you're from Toronto :) ), have you ever been to Algonquin Provincial Park?  It's like that first picture you posted, but without the jagged mountains and with more rounded glacial mountains.  It's about two hours north of Toronto.

My favorite vacation was going there and spending 5 days canoeing from campsite to campsite with nothing but what you've brought with you.  Incredible place.

Agreed Tarmac.
The above picture is looking north from the cottage over Wolf Lake into the southern boundry of Algonquin Park. Depending on traffic it's about a 2.5 to 3 hour drive from Toronto. This area is incredible. The pic above was taken at about 9:30 am last summer. End of May and the most of June are no time to be up there however...the bugs are, well, relentless
Tarmac, have you seen any wildlife up there? There is some 3,000 bears in the park; wolves, moose, deer, fox etc. If the wind is not blowing, you can hear conversations a mile away. LOL

I want to visit the Guinness brewery, some Scottish Distilleries, and some Irish Distilleries,

I know, it sounds like a cry for help,  I just like the history of it all.
