New main arena location.
« on: March 06, 2006, 10:49:15 AM »
Thank you for the traces and comments about the new location.

Please relize this move is only a test and we are not sure if we will stay with the new location.

To sumerize the connection.

People who already had excelent connections ping times droped slightly. And some had less hops.

Some people who had a playable connection now hare some UDP packet loss causing switch to TCP and voice drop problems.

I havn't seen any post of people who had packet loss previously suddenly having a clean connection.

So as of now I'm leaning toward moving the main arena server back to where all the other arenas are.

If you previouly had a very bad connection that now is working great please respond to this thread.

If you have already posted that your connection is much worse to the new /current location please do not post to this thread.

I get better pings on this new server, but it seems like the connection is less stable.

My pings went from about 98 to 75, so its nothing huge.  I'd rather have the stablity.

My only issue with the new server location is the frequent loss of VOX.  I dont think I am alone in this trouble, though.

I've had no issues at all with the new location. I had a decent connection before, it seems better now. I can live with either.

Yeah...  Me too, HT.  Personally, I have better ping rates, but since the new server change, my only issue is a rather persistent loss of VOX that .resetv does not seem to cure.  If we (meaning you  :)  ) can stabilize that, I'd be all about the new server!

Hehe! I get a kick out of it when someone says that they have temporaily lost VOX. I haven`t had VOX since AH1. I can receive , but hit transmit and it either locks up or insta boots.

I mentioned this in the old thread, but the only thing I noticed was that the report from field and ship guns is less reliable on this server for some reason. No flak bursts or hit sprites, but the damage is still being done. I never saw that on the old server.

Along a similar line, my son-in-law has been flying in the MA on my account (he and my daughter are living with us until he graduates from NYU). He was grumbling last evening after he repeatedly scored hits on aircraft (indicated by hit sprites) and yet no damage was done.

I actually saw this while watching over his shoulder as he repeatedly appeared to hit an La-7 and did no damage whatsoever. That bulletproof La-7 eventually shot him down on a HO... He was a bit twisted and was justified from what I saw. Packet loss? who knows.... He was having some issues with micro-warps too, something I never saw before the switch.

Yea I've seen a lot more warps with this new server tho my ping is roughly the same.

Like others, my single biggest complaint is the consistent loss of vox.

I haven't had vox drop out completely on the new server, but I'm still seeing the partial conversation issue. That is, I'll hear someone on the tuned vox talking to someone else also on tuned vox, but I'll only hear one person talking. It "seems" like the closer person gets through, but I have nothing to prove that observation.
