they were made to drop like a brick.  They are simply a container for getting the explosives to the ground.  The 4,000lb high capacity bomb (the 'trash can' one) had a charge to weight ratio of about 75-80%.  a normal bomb had about 50% charge to weight ratio. (so a high capacity 4,000 lb "trash can" bomb would carry 3,000lb of explosives over a normal 4,000 lb bomb which would carry around 2,000lb of explosives)

that means the 12,000lb 'cookie' had around 9,000lb of explosives in it

Sorry if I killed your buzz.  Maybe HTC could make a water detonation effect.  Huge detonation area turning frothy white with a giant geyser.  Proximity damage such that even if you missed the ship directly, you could still get it if you were close enough.

Dive bombing Lancs are bad enough already. Do we REALLY want them jabboing with a 22,000lb egg?
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Actually that brings up some interesting ideas.  First, it's already been mentioned the bomb would probably have to be perked.  As such it wouldn't really be something one would commonly use to dive bomb gv's, hangers, etc.

Second, and this is the really interesting idea, what about the blast area from such a bomb?  Wouldn't it be so great as to destroy the attacking bomber if he were too low?

I don't care for the tactic of JABO using a heavy bomber.  It does not make sense that it be in the game.  This is no reason to penalize bombers who "do it correctly" (i.e. level bombing at a decent altitude).  The Grand Slam (22,000 earthquake bomb) would be an interesting addition to the game.
