And 19 years later, after oodles of our tax dollars are spent on various appeals, he *might* actually be executed

Only if the painkillers wear off.

Hang him.

Nice and public.

On the courthouse lawn.

At noon.

Design a special prison uniform for child molesters and child killers. Let everyone know about the uniform. Put him in it and then release him to the general prison population.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

As absolutely wonderful as that sounds, it will be judged as a violation of their civil rights, and cruel and unusual punishment. The cons know who the pedophiles are, that's why they're kept segregated and protected. No special uniforms are needed.

My father got in serious trouble when he was superintendent of a local jail. It seems a trustee "accidentally" left a door open between the general population and the segregated area. There was one pedophile in there, and he spent several months in the hospital, a couple or more in intensive care. The guards were a little slow to react. That was some 35 years or so ago. He got demoted, suspended without pay, and transfered. And he was actually on vacation when it happened. But it was "his" jail. Took him a couple of years to recover his position and such, and he quit before he could retire.

How is lethal injection "slow and painful"?  Maybe a wrongly done hanging as they strangle to death, or the gas chamber, slow and painful enough for you?  The injections they give you do many things.  First they give you about 5000 MG of anasthetic, 150MG is standard for surgical procedures.  Next, they inject a paralyzing substance to cause the muscle to relax, stopping the diaphragm and lungs, then the toxic agent is injected, which interrupts electrical signals to the heart, causing cardiac arrest.  Toxic agent isn't used in all states, however.

In no way is it slow and painful.  Compared to past execution methods, they should be glad to get lethal injection.  There is always the options of gas chamber, firing squad, hanging, or the electric chair.

Virgil,

I know it wouldn't fly as a valid method, it just sounds "fair" and would use the services of a population that has no other valid use to society.

As far as the lethal injection being cruel....I doubt that the recipients of it were as careful of their victims feelings when they murdered them. Lethal injection is very painless and fast compared to stabbing, shooting, strangulation, beating etc. etc. that brought the convict, after a trial, into the chamber.

The injection technique is used as a means of putting animals down and after seeing euthanasia personally I have no doubt it is far far more merciful to a convicted murderer than anything the convict did for their victims.

The method of death is not the punishment; death is the punishment.  Have we forgotten that?  Kill him quickly and painlessly for all I care, just so long as he is dead.  If we scale the method of death to the gruesomeness of the crime, we become little better than the killer himself.
