When trying to take off turrets should be functional. Gives you a shot against vulchers.

That's why they are not. People would use them as anti aircraft emplacements.

Used to be able to do it in WarBirds.
It was called "ack-starring" and ack-starrers were the scum of the game - even worse than a HOing vulcher in a La7.
Imagine that.:D

Only allow them to fire if the plane is moving i.e. taking off. I agree, sitting stopped on the runway is no good, but if your trying to take off at least you have the ability to defend your self.

So throttle up, start your takeoff roll and jump in a gun?

I think people would probably just advance the throttle a teeny bit and move at 1 mph, and ackstar.

I actually used to love vulching when people'd up planes with bombs and drop em on the runway to try to kill low flying vulchers (this was years ago).

You only had to hit em with a MG bullet and they'd detonate themselves, it was great :).

So make a minimum speed before alowing the guns to work. Maybe 10 or 15 mph.

It seems silly to have them disabled. Ack star or whatever you call it is no different in my opinion than a bunch of m-16's. The buffs should be able to defend themselves from vulchers that way they are both targets instead of just the buffs. Is having their defensive armament disabled HTC's way of trying to coax the buffs to take off from fields farther back from the front? If so; why not just disable them at frontline bases & make them available only one or more bases behind the front lines? just my .02

Can't up M-16s when the VH is dead. The VH always dies, despite all the threads whining about the FHs going down, the VH is always dead first. BH is always last if at all.

It is good the way it is right now, have to be in the air for the turrents to work. Besides, anyone dumb enough to up buffs on a heavily vulched field just painted a huge "Look at me, I am a baby seal" on their fuselage

Taking off in a bomber during a field cap? What do you think this is? Lando's escape from the Death Star II in the Millenium Falcon?

That's not really applicable since you can drop BH's just like any other. It's last if at all because Il2's are the only thing to ever pop out of them when a field gets a cap on it & very few virtual pilots can dog fight in an Il2 well enough to bother. I just don't see the reason for disabling their guns, are the buffs such a big threat to the vultures? If vulching is so frowned upon why not let them fight back? They're going to die either way. I just don't get the logic behind it is all.

 *big shrug*

Exactly, and I have had dog fights in an A20 and come very close to winning. I get better at it every time I try it. VH down, FH down, take up an A20 and go after someone.

You can't vulch your own field Raider, and if you land at an enemy base you should be obliterated by someone in a P38, A20 or B26.

Perhaps it could be "coaded" so that at least if you were landing your guns would remain live until you tower out. At least you'd have a defense against a vulcher who was trying to catch you in the pattern.
