KD, there is a lead computing site avalible in offline mode, and in the training arena. To activate it, simply look at the target plane and press the TAB key. If there is more than one plane in view, you can continue to press the TAB key, and cycle through until the plane you want to select is hilighted. A green site will then appear showing the amount of lead you need to allow to hit the target. Some practice with this will give you an idea on where you need to aim.
Since you are fairly new, I would suggest leaving tracers on. Until you become used to the ballistics model in AH, they will be handy in showing how far you are missing by, and what adjustments you need to make.
Unless you are in a position where you have a sure shot, fire short burst, note where your shots went, adjust your lead, and try again. Do not spray wildly, or walk your bullets to the target. What you are trying to accomplish is building yourself a mental library of sucessful "site pictures" so that you will know how far to lead, and when to pull the trigger under varying situations. The drawback to throwing a long burst of lead out hoping to hit something, is that when you do actually manage to get a few hits, you will have no idea what the correct site picture looked like when those particular rounds were fired.
It will take time to gain an eye for gunnery, but some offline or TA practice sessions, will likely give you a jump start on building that library of site pictures.
