7900GT meets "rack box"
« on: April 17, 2006, 09:56:42 PM »
Got my 7900GT 2 days early (was showing Wed dwlivery on UPS site) so had to load it up with the existing PS. Deleted the ATI CP and drivers & set display back to standard....loaded smoothly. Ran aquamark BM out of curiousity (73,8??)...looked great. Fired up AH off line...slid all sliders left and loaded everything in hi-res in 1280x1024 (max res on my 19" lcd)....tooled around with every thing pegged at 60 (max refresh rate on monitor)....

Fired AH up online and happened into a great little furball/gv push...could here the cannon rounds/bombs/straffing...gleefully loaded up a D hog and rolled down the runway with stuff burning on all sides....FR was mostly pegged at 60 with a few studders (drops were very sharp to 25 or less)....had a good furball (10-12 each good and bad) with about 12-15 friendly GV's defending against about 6-8 PZ's with a few M-16's and M-3's. Enemy ponies were doing a good job forcing breaks in bomb runs so I had to make multiple passes....good see GVs rolling thru barns tree's etc well past icon range. Air to air detail (picking up wingline etc also seemed much better).....

So as far as I can tell the card works very well in this box (still worried about PS issues)....but basically got a 3500+ venice core with 1G ram 200 gig sata drive (maxtor) with 7900GT for about $730 total....box is also DEAD silent.

Only thing I dont like is the apparent lack of temp monitoring....need to download a utility of some kind to check it out....
