Any SpitMk1 AHFs out there?
« Reply #15 on: April 22, 2006, 05:58:38 PM »
Thanks for the replies all.

I flew the SMk1 for he last week, since i swore to stay out of the HMk1 for a while. ;)

Im impressed how well I did in it in the MA... it kind of surprised me. But compared to the HMk1... it SUCKS. In EVERY aspect possible. See the difference between the two here.

What i have most trouble with is the convergence issue. Those spread out 303s cant hurt a FLY. 3 kills and im bingo......

Flew a few duels against Furball in a La7... surprisingly good match (providing the La is stallfighting, not running). SMk1 can hang on the prop like no other - just dont get it into subzero Gs.....

yeah lol. actually, i find the spit isnt bad gunwise. i was taking off people's wings tonight and they thought i was in a mk5 using hispanos because i tore them off so quick :) just a matter of distance i guess, getting nice and close :)

i'll put the films up so you can see, but really, it's just a spit, fly it like you would for any other, but get in close for the shots :) and im sure you're better than me with the 303's :)

LoL Poof, im a much crappier shot then you are and you know that.

The problem is not only getting close... its having convergence distance when shooting. If your shooting range is further then 50 yds off convergence, seems like you do no damage at all (except the odd fuel leak/pw etc) .Had it at 175 like in HMk1 - that didnt work out well. Got it to 225 now.... thinking about trying 250. Ill post some films later, youll see what i mean then. If you hit in conv, its like quad hispanos... but if its NOT... its more like throwing gravel. Its not that noticable in the HMk1.

yup i can understand what you mean:lol sometimes you can get rid of half your ammo, with roughly a 30-40% hit ratio, and not do anything, and then you can tear someone's wing off with 30 rounds:lol

reckon you can PM me your addy so i can send them to you? otherwsie i'll post them up tomorrow morning :)

Schatzi, I highly recommend 250-275 convergence on the Spit I.  Thats where I have the best luck anyway.

As for flying it, you almost have to treat it like an underpowered P38.  Rudders.  Lots of rudders.  Pull on the stick more than you would the other Spits or the Hurri, you can easily roll inverted and remain that way in loops or yo yos without worrying about the negative G cutouts if you keep pressure on the stick and rudders.  I've had the plane almost at a dead stop rolling out of an Immelman and not lost engine until the very last bit of the rollout.  If you time things right, you can do it without any cutout at all.  I find it often works better to barrel roll to line up on a con than to try using the stick when they are evasive, using the extra space the roll gives you to help line up on target, rather than trying to make small, quick corrections with the stick.

You should try the AvA, plenty of work for the Spit I in there right now.  At least until the Spit V takes over.  Had a great fight with Kongkyuk's 109F yesterday.  Rather, I had alot of fun trying to stay out from in front of his guns.  :)  I only managed a couple of snapshots, dont think I even hit him.  I kept trying to force an overshoot and he just wouldnt fall for it.

SpitV has already taken over the AvA. Its just SpitV, HurriII and 109F now.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.
