On the surface making English the official language when it comes to any sort of governmental or business transaction sounds okay, but I wonder about the cost specifically with regard to elections. Which is cheaper, printing additional text on the ballots or funding education for people that do not speak English? Oh yeah, that's what we would have to do. To do otherwise would be a violation of voter rights.
According to the U.S. census, there are over forty million hispanics in this country. That's 14% of the population. How many are going to vote for the disenfranchisement of themselves, or their families, or their friends?
All of which is a completely separate issue than limiting the singing of the National Anthem to English. Which is nothing more than a limit on the freedom of expression for nothing more than emotional reasons. It's not about safety or security.
