No one should be required to speak english except that all citizens should be required to pass a test showing that they can read and speak it at some fundamental level.

I should not be required to pay for any translations of government documents. Any translations at tourist or paid attractions should be paid out of ticket sales.

sandie.... most of the hispanics I know speak perfectly understandable english.... a lot of em can't even speak spanish. probly of that 40 million.... half or more fall into those categories. The rest are most likely illegals or older people who don't need any help because the younger ones translate for them in any case.

to vote in the USA you must a citizen , to become a citizen you must have a working knowledge of the English language. the test is given in english.

Its just a song. I'm ok with it, I say let them sing. I personally honor hispanics who have fought and served and died for this country, who like this song, and I'm not too worried that the song will ever replace the national anthem.

The other thing that bothers me about this is, its like we welcomed these people to work here illegally, but now want to treat them like bastard children? I don't know what we should do about them, but we better keep our integrity.

I didn't squealing welcome them here---don't presume too many people are in that camp. And referring to an earlier post, you can't lump all Hispanics into one mindset---MOST Hispanic CITIZENS in Arizona want something to be done about the border...Puerto Ricans HATE being confused with Mexicans, as do Cubans. A of ths moment, there are 25,000 illegal aliens in prison in this country for FELONIES having nothing to do with sneaking across the border---businessmen don't pay that enormous bill..the federal government doesn't pay it..your local and state taxes are paying it, along with their food stamps, emergency room bills, the bills for their kids to go your public schools, the bill to Nationwide insurance to replace the destroyed car that my little girl was riding in which was destroyed by a carload of Mexicans who had neither license nor insurance......EEEEEEEEEEEEER RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrr:mad:

The businessmen who were willing to pay illegal aliens for cheap labor and the politicians who looked the other way all these years welcomed them here.
