Beer was around looooooong before Roman times.  The ancient Egyptians brewed beer as early as 3100 BC.  They also had a cure for the hangover (Vitamin B12 before sleep).

My fav beers are Harp & Guinness.

MmmmMmmMmm, Guinness...  Low alch % though.

Dowding, you're right, Canadian beer from big corporations sucks big time, but I drink it only when I want to get drunk.   (Molson Dry usually does the trick.)

When I want a good beer, I drink microbrewery beers. Sleeman, Boréale, Unibroue come to my mind.

I like Bass too.    And Beck, and NewCastle, and...

Say, you made me thirsty. Dang it, no beer left in my fridge!

That most of them speak in french. That a lot of them aren't happy with Quebec's current situation in Canada, that there is even some terrorist groups asking for independence...

And that if you call "english!" to a quebec-borne french speaking canadian he will be quite pissed   Saw it by myself

Was a tongue on cheek comment

Do you realize just who you are explaining this to, RAM?

Do you happen to look at the left of posts sometimes?

I didn't appreciate the bit about "danger". You're implying that I  or my fellow citizen could become violent just because someone calls me 'English'?

You find that funny?

I don't.

What would you know of terrorist groupS in Québec?

Terrorist groups! Let me laugh.

A hint, RAM: stick to subject you fully know.

I will answer only to one of your questions.

This was intended as a tongue in cheek comment, sorry if you felt bad for it.

More or less?

You don't know anything about the situation here. When's the last time you heard of terrorist attacks in Canada, or their frequency?

Damn it, don't talk of things you don't know.

When someone says I can turn violent because someone says something I don't like, I'm supposed to find that funny?

You have a crappy sense of humour, and absolutely no real knowledge of the situation here.

Let me put a thing straight. I said "in danger" purely tongue in cheek. As I told yah, I saw what can happen if you call "english" a Quebec guy.

I was once near Cuenca (a spanish city), we went in group to do a free-time monitor course and happened that there were a Canadian, a couple of US guys and one Italian. All guys who were getting their summer time in Spain to learn some spanish. The Canadian guy was called Jean, was a riot, very funny guy. He was very strong, very white skinned, and a wonderful mate. And we got friends quite fast (I love Bryan Adams music, Canadian singer as you know, and happened that he liked his music too. We spent a lot of time together those 2 weeks)

Someone in the campament that evidently knows nothing about Canada told him that was strange that an english speaking guy talked Spanish with french accent...he smiled, and said nothing...

And the next day the guy reached the morning with the words "Quebec not english" on the face put with Colgate (A teeth cleaner, dunno how to say in english)...we made a photo of him waking up...I think I have a copy there, was really incredible   The laughter was nonstop

So, I saw it. If you call a quebec guy "english" YOU ARE IN DANGER!   .
------------------------------------
You took things too serious, man. And BTW I know there aren't many terrorists attacks on Quebec. But there are groups and have been groups, I can know much less than you about Quebec problems, but believe me that some I do know. Mostly because Jean told us some about it. Not much but some.

So again take things light. That was a funny comment, and you'll agree with me that if you call a quebec borne guy "english", for sure he wont be proud of it, or am I wrong?

Lighten up, ok?

Chill lads. What has this got to do with beer?

DrSoya - glad to hear you're not forced to drink just the mass-produced stuff. BTW - when you say 'Newcastle', do you mean 'Newcastle Brown'? I studied about 20 miles from where it is made (i.e. Newcastle) and it was dirt cheap in all the pubs and off-licences (liquer store). Haven't drunk it in a while though after one particular episode... the less said about that the better, I think...

Yeah.. and the Southern Plantation owners in the U.S. never touched the black ladies.

Hmmm.. you do seem to be getting ANGRY about something someone said........LOL

Just kidding DrSoya. You know where I really stand from the thread months ago.
Note: You should find THIS joke funny (I hope)

Ram: Terrorism in Quebec ?? lol
Yeah the FLQ when you were in diapers.
(you may not have even been born)

It would take a long time to explain but,
trust me you don't have a clue.

The rest of the world, and many in Canada who only watch the news, are in the same boat.
They only hear the whining for attention.. not the truth.
The average person's thoughts are never mentioned in the news(or discussion) because that would be boring.
(or too complicated..right DrSoya ?   )

Yes, it is.

Choice?

A relative concept.

Capitalism allows the larger breweries to push out and swallow up the smaller ones. And that is a fact.

LOL, sounds like something I would do.

The FLQ was in the early 80s, and the Basque situtation is totally different than Quebec and Canada.  The Basque situation is more similar to our Native Canadian situation than the Quebec seperation thing.

Other than the FLQ (which is over and done with), I don't know of any other terrrorist organizations.. and I live on the Ontario/Quebec border.

Wrong again, oh socialist liberal!

Don't you guys ever get tired of voicing opinion without researching fact?

There are now more microbreweries in the US than any time in the past 30 years. So now there's more choice in cereal malt beverages than ever.

Don't make me pull out my web browser and blast away!

I can't believe no Germans have popped their head into this thread   Give me a Paulaner Hefeweizen any day   I never drank beer until I went to Germany. In fact, I couldn't stand beer before then. 2 years of drinking good local German brews cured me of that. Pity the only one I can get now is Paulaner.
