Engine questions
« on: May 10, 2006, 11:48:54 PM »
Sorry to bug you all, but I have a few more questions.  1, can one overheat an engine?  2. Is there a limit as to how long WEP lasts?  3, Can one open up the radiators on the planes to cool down the engines?
Hope these questions make sense.  Thanks in advance!

it'll over heat when wep is used too long. wep will turn off when it overheats. it'll cool by it self when wep is off. theres nothing you have to do. the plane will still fly.

You can speed up how fast wep recharges.

Throttling the engine back or shut it off entirely. Let it glide for a min or 2 deadstick and you will see a dramatic change in temp.

but if someone shoots out your radiator your in big trouble for it wil over hit and burn up and then you will become a glider and not a fighter.:D  Plus, KI84 has real good wep cooldown time like 3x 4x faster than other planes. Also, luftewaffe birds have a lot of wep time before over heat. But i thought the wep they used could not come back unless refueled or something like that. Like it was some sort of liquid. But in AH you just have to cool down and you can wep it again.

One trick to eke out more power from a radiator dying plane...

You'll have a minute or so after radiator hit until all coolant is gone. Once you see the temp gauge climbing, its literally seconds until you havea dead engine.

So, before it hits the top temp, hit E to turn engione off. You'll be a glider until the temp drops enough that you can turn on and wep again. Now temp climbs really fast, because you have no coolant except air flow....so when the temp tops out, turn the engine off again.

Yesterday I glided >50 miles with this technique, including getting over a mountain range that woudl have killed me for sure without it. Got down with no kills...but landed square on teh runway!
