possible flak bug
« on: May 12, 2006, 12:41:43 PM »
I know I have a rep for hating flak, but this seemed weird.

I was flying towards a45 and I saw flak shooting at guys ahead of me.  Heavy stuff.  Then as I approached, suddenly I was being shot at by the heavy flak even though the guys ahead of me were still at my alt but closer to the field.  Then as I was being shot at, and on my FE those guys were NOT being shot at, one of them got killed by the ack and exploded.

So... Bug?  It looks like heavy flak is engaging more than one person at a time.  This was just one example, but I saw the same thing about 5 times around a fleet too.  I'd lag off of a furball between 5 and 10k altitude, and I'd see flak engaging guys below me, but as soon as I got within a certain distance of the fleet, even if there were guys above me and nearer to the fleet than I was, the flak would engage me.  So it really does seem like the flak is shooting at more than one person at a time and there is a problem with the FE-server comms on who flak is engaging.

Anyhow, it was a consistent issue tonight, with every single time I'd get near a fleet or field, the flak would engage me even though a second earlier it would engage numerous friendlies who were nearer the field.  It's like the flak FE-server decision is porked because everyone seems to be engaged by the flak at the same time.

Sorry, no film.  I'm not sure it would have shown anything though, since the flak simply switched from one group of friendlies to me several times, even when I was barely on the fringe of flak range and they were still well within flak range.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Are you sure it was not a manned gun getting your buddies?
