Our Pets, Best friends and Companions

Most people have a love of animals; Many have dogs and cats as family pets. Back in 1981 I was introduced to a friends pets and shortly thereafter I bought myself a bird. Her name is Chiquita; She's native to Australia but I bought her as a baby who had been hand raised here in Canada.
In 25 years she has become a source of extreme pride and together we have forged a bond like no other I have known.

I thought it might be nice to see who we have as our household pets and to share some stories.

The above picture of Chiquita was taken approximately a year ago. For about the last 15 years she has a slice of Eggo waffle toasted, with whip cream on it (and strawberries when I have them) for breakfast. If I don't have the Eggo's she will voice her displeasure until she receives her regular breakfast.
She also, like most birds, gets up at first light. At that point she comes out of her covered cage and walks down the hall and climbs into my bed and snuggles up beside me until I get up.
I don't think I would recommend getting a large bird because you have to be prepared to spend allot of time with them. To do otherwise would be cruel. She is very bright and loves people. She has never shown even the slightest bit of ill temperment.
The rest of her daily food in supplement to her dishes of seed mixture is really anything that is prepared for dinner. She likes pasta, meat (which was a surprise), french fries and her favourite desert is sliced banana.

Anyway, if you have a pic of your pet, post it and let us see???

She's an Umbrella Cockatoo. There are 4 kinds of Cockatoos; She is the second biggest.
Birds crap allot; I'm guessing maybe once an hour? Over the years she seems now to wait to crap when she gets back to her cage but if she is frightened by something she will crap instantly in preparation to fly. Fortunately, her crap doesn't smell so if she does do it somewhere else, I can just let it dry and vaccuum it up without leaving any stain. She has several perches in/on her cage; I just put newspaper underneath and change it once a week or so.

Zypher (supposed to be Zephyr but some people in my family can't spell...) is a full bred German Shepard.  Pic was taken about a year ago.  He turned 1 on January 1st this year.  He's the pride and joy of my step dad, although my step dad does nothing for him, except play ball with him every so often.  He enjoys long showers from the garden hose and playing fetch, with trainer tennis balls (they have more give then regular tennis balls).  Yes he has big ears, and a big nose, yes he is growing into them.

P.S. What the heck is the deal with people naming their dog Sadie?

My dog just was smelling it cause I took that pic the day I got it and it was new.

My brother in law has a lab, and if he sees a gun or hears the word gun or hunting will not calm down for hours.

I have taken my lab hunting though. She loves to go wheeling though.

Bradley.. about 7-8yrs old, not sure. He was a pound puppy but at least 2 when I got him.

Jack and Jill... showed up on our porch as kittens one day... the wife said we would just take care of them for a little while so they would be strong enough to survive in the pound... that was 7 years ago.

Mimi was in a shopping basket on the street. We took her in 10 years ago. The vet thinks she is part coyote.. based on her disposition I think she is all coyote. She is very loyal and loving to the family, but has snapped at every boyfriend the daughters ever brought home... that is the main reason I kept her.

Miss Kitty (The wife is a Gunsmoke fan) is over 15 now, but will go after the other 2 cats in a flash if her space is invaded. She is the one that insists on jumping into my lap in the middle of a furball.

This is mandy.  She's a stray that came knockin on our door one day.....litterally.  She's our 3rd dog and we don't really want to keep her but the shelters here only keep dogs for 2 days so I won't go that route.

By all accounts she's still a puppy, about 5 to 7 months old and she's a golden retreiver.  She loves to get things, the other day I was reading the mail and dropped a junk mail envelope on the floor, the next thing I know she's laying next to me with it in her mouth.  She also fetches things for me when she misses me.....yesturday she walked around with one of my dirty boot socks in her mouth for about an hour after I went to work looking for me.

She's a great dog and I hope we find a good home for her, I don't want to keep her but refuse to give her up just to put her down.  She also follows my 4 year old son around all day long picking up his legos and bringing them to him.

I also have a german sheppard and the dumbest most lovable mut you've ever met.

Dude, I would seriously freak out living near a bird that big.

My grandfather keeps these little screechy yellow birds, I hate them.

They get out of the cage, I get out of the room.
