on the other hand, ron howard is no genius.
i can't rememeber anything i ever saw by him, but i'm sure i've seen something he worked on.
he is bland & thats what you get out of hollywood these days.
i'd bet the people that say that so much $ is invested in making & promoting a movie that it makes doing anything interesting too risky are probably right.
maybe it the same phenomononononon that makes detroit suck

Opie's no genius and his movies are bland? I assume you never saw Apollo 13. All that floating around is not CGI, it's real. The majority of the film was shot in zero gravity. Let's see, who else has ever done that. The correct answer is nobody.

Yeah, he's a bland hack. All he's ever directed was Backdraft, Ransom, Parenthood, Splash, Cocoon, Willow and more. Maybe someday he'll get one right.

The only complaint I have is he pulled out of directing The Alamo.

Howard is a good director...but he doesn't always have the magic touch.  "Willow" was an abomination.

I think his next film will make everyone forget about DaVinci. Man has a choice and it's a choice that makes him a man.

For the most part if the film academies like a film and it wins many awards the film sux. When a film is passed over by them or better yet derided by them that is a film that I will usually enjoy watching. There are a few exceptions and ironicaly they are Tom Hanks films.
Rarely do I pay to watch a film in the theater anymore they just aren't worth the price of admission, I usually wait for it to come out on HBO, or rent the dvd.

Now this sounds interesting. I'm generally not too keen on remakes and God knows we sure get a lot of them these days. And then there are all the ridiculous TV series made into movies...it all makes me wonder if there is any imagination left in Hollywood. East of Eden was  great movie, hope he can do it justice.

Saw it.

I think anyone who read the book will probably find it just OK. My wife never read the book and enjoyed it.

Howard had to use a TON of exposition to explain what was going on... I think he did it pretty well. Overall I think it was a good effort.

This movie is the second largest grossing movie in its opening weekend ever! (worldwide and domestic)

(StarWars Episode 3 was #1)
