The bulk of AA had to be deployed from a tow truck set up and then used in a stationary mode.................
So Bring the Studebaker & trailer to AH................. then we can have both "GV'ers" and "trailer trash"..............
I don't agree, not that your point isn't valid. The Wirbelwind was designed to travel with Panzer divisions to protect against attacking A/C.
The Ostwind did play a small part in this role, however was primarily used for defences at bases, camps & airfields.
I too agree that it would be nice to have "deployable" gun platforms for defense. The 88 would be perfect in this role as would the 20mm, 37mm and 40mm flak guns.
I am one of the worst pilots in the MA and I can kill an M16 with relative ease and the field guns at any base (except a Port)
*As stated, back to the subject*
I too agree that there should be more AA guns at any given base. While I don't want to take the fun out of guys furballing and having a good fight, over an enemy airfield might not be the best place.
During WWII, flying, attacking or just hanging around and enemy base was almost always suicide. The Jabo pilot of WWII had one of the most dangerous jobs when attacking these types of facilities.
In here (the MA) it's pork it up and business as usual. I know the flyboys hate the idea of being shot out of the sky by an AA gun, but in the same token you need to ask yourself "do I want to fly around this enemy base within ack range?"
It's no different than me hoping in a fiter to meet incoming attackers that are at alt and speed. Now I try to climb up to them and get shot down, who's fault is that? There's? OR mine for putting myself in that position?
Point being, if said attackers want to attack a point of intrest of the enemy they should be prepared to be meet with stiff defenses.
