Probably cheaper than building your own BD-5J.

LOL!

Well, added up, probably not.  I figure just under $25k to have mine done, built and flying.

MiG 15s are nice, require a lot of careful piloting but an impressive airplane overall.  The Chinesse had to have a white line painted down the front of the panel so if the thing stalled and spun, they'd know to push the stick to the white line (which is neutral ailerons and down elevator).

Man I'd love to own a warbird, but then again, I'd love to own a nice plane and build up more hours!  Renting these rotted out Cessna's that bill out for a premium price is pissing me off.

Yeah, "jets are for kids"...

but it's still one heck of a lot of "hi-tech" (relative to most of the "civil market") and capability for $60k.

Remember, a new Cessna 172 is easily twice that now.

But you do not need 2-mile long concrete runway to fly Cessna. Unless you can fly it from a major airport, that $60.000 is paid for a fancy oversize paperweight!

Bah.  I remember they used to have a MiG-15 come through Livermore Municipal Airport.  The guy who owned it said he got quite a bit of superfluous ATC chatter.  Heh, fly a plane like that and get noticed!
It's cheap and undoubtedly a great aerobatic plane (plus it's got two seats), but you're gonna need a lot of kerosene.

I doubt it takes that much concrete to get in the air. I can't absolutely vouch for these specs, but they seem reasonable; ! 1700' takeoff roll and a ~2500' landing roll. It's only an 1100 pound airplane with 5,952 lb static thrust with a decent wing.

..and try to get THOSE speeds and climb rates out of a Cessna spam can.

Like I said, it's a lot of performance and technology for $60K.

Trouble is, unless you won a Lotto you're only going to be flying it to, at and from airshows that are providing free gas.   :)

Jeez! Closed Cockpit! Hadn't thought about that!

Now I AM leaning against making a bid.

Wonder if you can at least slide it back in the pattern?   :)
