My current ride
« on: May 29, 2006, 08:31:32 PM »
Just a couple of shots of my current ride. It's an AS30BA Ecuriel ( we call it an Astar). Pretty good intermediate helicopter. Loads of power, kinda spoils ya a bit

This was a test flight, so pic 1 is the preflight run and pic 2 is  lifting off into the hover before departing.

Fun helicopter. These shots are me, Jeebuz in the back seat (Our Engineer, A&P for my American friends, and one of our new pilots in the co-pilot seat).

cheers,

Were the cones there to practice parallel parking?

Nice machine. I'm envious. :)

hehe Arlo, its actually a grass airstrip.

The cones are there because apparently, fixed wing drivers need some kind of marker to show them a straight line.    (srry Golfer and other Plank drivers, us flingwings gotta get the digs in cause we never get the chicks!).

cheers,

That's cause you don't accessorize

Here's my bar hat:

Nifty looking machine.  I wanted to get my rotorwing certificate, but the medical examiner said I have an IQ and was thereby disqualified from obtaining the rating :(

ZZZZZZZING!

Dang Golfer!  Nice hat!

btw..whats a IQ? Is that some kinda fixed wing anacronym? hehe

btw, my med examiner says rotary wing pilots have to have 5 serviceable appendages, but he lets fixed wing drivers go if they have at least 4.

LOL

All kidding aside, I'm kinda envious of what you are flying. Looks like fun.

Cheers,

It's a good gig.

I've already grown a reputation as a jokester.  It's a bit of a long story but the readers digest version is:

-Myself (new hire) and two other guys from same company are at training facility together.  They're for a different airplane I'm for the Encore
-Make friends with one of the other guys...cool guy.  Baseball, women, alcohol all common interests.
-Other guy is a toolbag.  Super pilot dork.  Super ego pilot dork.  Giant dork sweetheartbag
-Other guy makes me mad and I give him an unfiltered bit of what I'm thinking.  Other guy doesn't like.
-Cool guys laughs, other guy gets more mad.
-Other guy throws cracker at me
-I ponder killing other guy
-5 minutes later we're walking through the parking lot when other guy says "I can tell you want to hit me."  I just keep walking.  He then says "Wanna just fight and get it over with?"  I stop, clench a fist, look him right in the eye and say "Really?"  Mind you I'm 6'0, 230lbs.  His face was priceless and it was all I could do to not start laughing.  Afterward the cool-guy spread the word of what happened and now I'm something of a legend.

And I hadn't even sat in an airplane yet!

Fast Forward a few weeks:

Every time I fly with a new guy or run into people I'm meeting for the first time they say "oh yeah you're so-in-so's buddy who kicked the @#%! out of whats-his-name."  They say that everybody will know me for that, but nobody will ever think poorly of me for it.  In fact they wish they could have been the one to do it.

aaaaaaaaaanyways...

I order some business cards with this guy's name, real phone number and a bogus email that I own.  He goes around saying he's a "Citation X Captain" when he'd never even sat in the damn thing.  I made sure to put on the card "Just call me captain!" etc etc etc.

So now these business cards which appear legit have been floating around and it's gotten out that I'm the creator.  Now my entire order of 250 for $4.95 is GONE and am being asked to order more :D

I like this job :)

I won some cold cash skippering a Soling 30 years ago. my deck ape was a gorilla.. 230 pounds and motivated. we crushed 'em in a tacking duel.

don't screw up. the star class is wicked fast.. fun and wet, almost like dingy or scow racing, but a soling has some mass; and poorly handled it will kill yah. :)

G'luck laser boy.. find 'em and grind 'em.

Well, I'm not a small thing either.  6'5 and around 250-260 pounds.  I need to weigh myself though.  I need to get down to around 240 pounds for the Star.  It has a weight limit.  I'd squeeze in at 260, but I don't want the odd chance of a night of heavy drinking pushing us over the limit.

So the next week or so will be hell for me.  Run run run.  Never spent a minute in a gym though.

Lasersailor, very cool!  Thanks for the pics.

Golfer, I am a bit of a joker too. But, have been told that once the helmet is on and the bird is strapped on, my sense of haha goes the way of the dodo. I never really noted it before, but can see it.

To a certain extent that is true. I am probably one of the most anal pilots you will ever meet. But....on the ground (probably much like yourself), I'm surprised I haven't had the snot beat out of me! hehe .

We have to have fun, otherwise we wouldn't do what we do. I'm sure you can agree, we don't do it for the money. Hell, someday's we would do it for free! (don't tell my boss I said that though LOL).

Fly safe!

The only things free in aviation are the breakfasts at hiltons once you're a diamond member!

I'm serious in the airplane.  Once the engines are off...I stick Otto-Pilot in the window (and am sure to LOCK the door) to stand guard on the airplane.  Line guys love it, other pilots get a kick and it's an easy way to give lots of laughs without hurting anyone.
