Pick a plane. Fly. Return to tower. Go to hangar. Select field gun. The map of the field and gun positions is shown at an angle, as if it were a plane parked out on the hangar floor. Picking a gun snaps it back to overhead view.
A minor, cosmetic glitch - but I wonder if it's related to the no-CV-hangars bug.
