haha!! Most kids I knew joined the army or guard to get out of working! Seriously, the only good paying jobs at the time were hard labor, totin' block, mixing cement, lumping bundles of shingles up a ladder, etc. I ate it up, made good money, but some went into the service.
Ironically, I'm going to school to do this ****.
I wouldn't mind if a Scottish (it wasn't Heinlein who originated the idea) way of life was put up. If you serve, for a set period of time, you get to be a citizen.
The "Non-Military" option seems interesting, but it should be scaled way way back to make it NOT EQUAL to military service. Wanting to help the Red Cross is noble, however don't think for one second you are worth the spit of someone who is willing to die for his country.
So, 2 years all front line military career basics. More difficult careers would require more.
But lazy **** like the Red Cross? You have to give 20 years before you even begin to become a citizen.
