Sound Card Advice

I think it's time to scrap my sound card. It's acting up. It's an older Creative Live card and I'm wondering if there's some other manufacturers worth looking at.

I run a subwoof and two speakers. Not interested in 5.1 or 7.1 systems.

Any recommendations to buy or avoid?

Depends what features are you looking for.
If you're looking for acceptable sounds, reasonable price, compatibiltiy and very low CPU utilization (for gaming), audigy2 series is still one of the better choices.

Others in the same class would be Audiotrak Prodigy, Terratec Aureon, M-Audio Revolution and such.

Nothing special, but it'll get the job done without breaking the bank.

LOL Sandy! I'm surprised you can still get the drivers for that antique. I had one of those and used it in AH1, which I played on my WME setup. (No drivers for W2K) When I upgraded for AH2 (nearly 3 years ago!) I got an Asus A7N8X-DLX mobo, which has onboard sound, and which I found to be FAR superior than that offered by the CL sound card, especially for comms. I got "howl around" with the CL, but that was eliminated with the Asus onboard sound package.

Out of interest, what OS are you using?
