Unless Xterra's aren't as expensive as I think? iirc, the FJ was due out at under 20k. Demand & dealers probably inflated it a bunch, but that's how it goes until there's more availability.
I'd compare it head to head with the Honda Element. They're about the same size/shape/niche/price. The Element works perfect for a friend of mine that's a pro fisherman. Lots of milage hauling around kayaks and gear. Works really well for him, so I don't think an FJ would be much different. They're too light to even get stuck easily. Mud is a few thousand times more common than a hill to climb in east Texas, so it may be a better choice out here depending on where your playground is at.
The most popular Toyota platform for lesbians seems to be the Scion xA. No clue why. They had to pay me to drive that thing.
Now if I had some trails worth a crap that weren't hundreds of miles away, I'd be in line with the rest of the Xterra fanbois
The comparison was not about price, but about comparing the mid size SUVs that claim some offroad prowess.
They tested them on and off the road. I think the H3 won off road, but was crappy on road. I think the FJ was rated the same. The GC and X got props for being good on and off road. (this is all from memory)
I would compare it to the honda element as well except honda makes no real claim thats the element a real off road vehicle.
The 4x4 version of the FJ start at 22900, curb weight 4200 pounds? (thats 1k more then a tocoma)
The X starts a 22650 for the base X, 4X4, 4150pounds
H3 starts at 29k 4700 pounds.
Jeep GC base 4x4 30k 3700 pounds
The comparison isnt great price wise but the rest of the specs match up well.
Oh, and I think the FJ is smurfy, it looks like a really big rav4. I can only see large manly lesbians wanting to drive a big ugly rav4.
