Seen some questions from new HOTAS owners as far as what to do with all those programable buttons.  The best answer is, that you should tailor them to your own flying habits.  You'll want easy access to the functions that you use the most, which may vary depending on what type of sortie you usually go on.  

That said, here is my button setup as an example.  It is tailored to flying twin engine P-38s.

CH Fighterstick:
fire primary weapon
fire secondary
toggle secondary
toggle stickset (alternate hat switch views)
trim elev up
trim elev down
trim aeli left
trim aeli right
WEP
dive flaps
auto speed
toggle combat trim
auto pilot
gear
unmapped
unmapped

CH Throttle:
(finger buttons)
select eng 1
select all eng
select eng 2
(4-way buttons)
raise flaps
lower flaps
full vis range
short vis range (for frame rates in busy areas)
key tuned channel
key range channel
increase prop pitch
decrease prop pitch
zoom view
clipboard
zoom in
zoom out
(thumbstick) controls pan mode view
(hat) unused
