Can anyone tell me the only American made car to win Le Mans, what year, the average speed, distance covered, what year that distances covered was beaten, and the winner of the Thermal Efficiency during that same race, and where the cars name came from.

Damn it Bill Yes. The winning car driven by Gurney/Foyt in 1967 (I was two years old

) averaged 135.49mph, covered a distance of 3251.16 miles (not matched until 1971) AND got the best gas mileage of ANY car in the race winning the Thermal Efficiency Award at 6.5mpg! That's with a 427cid engine producing 525hp and running well over 200mph on the long straights! Bad car huh.

Not only that but legend has it that the engine was dyno tested after the race and produced 7 more hp than it did before the race! On top of that the engine was "streetable" enough to pull top gear at 1000rpm. The GT-40 isn't just a legendary car it is THE legend.

Think I'm a GT-40 lover?

Oh! It was named the GT-40 for lack of a better name at the time because it was 40inches tall.

I want one so bad I can taste it.

I was dragging my lame prettythang outta south east asia for the second time in 67.

Ford won the manufactures trophy that year also, if I remember right.

Damn it Bill two times. I remember the day my uncle saw his number come up on TV. He went down and joined the Navy. I think he stayed in the Navy 25 years. It was not a happy day at grandma's that day. Glad to see you made it Bill.

He was on the USS Cleveland. Yep someday I would like to build a kit. You remember Holman/Moody Racing I bet. I've corresponded with Lee Holman. He sales a brand new GT-40 Mk II that is an exact replica for a paltry $250,000.

If I build one it wont be one of those.

M14/NS-B with kit. Carried a .45 Walker Colt as a side arm, was also qualified on the M-60 I still think it was the finest LMG ever produced.

Bill in a few years when all those FSP Vietnam sims come out you will be the guy getting invited to the FSP convention. The kids will be asking "Was the M-14 really that accurate?" and "Do you think these grenades are over modeled" Just ribbing you man.
