disengage or keep fightin?
« on: July 03, 2006, 08:21:20 AM »
While defending a field today, i was patrolling for inb goons, while dodging a 47N that didnt want to engage, i spot a goon coming out of nme field.  Hajo states "nik you are warping bad", "nik at 121 you are warping bad", then somone else comes on "nik relog you are wapring badly"  Diving on the goon I come 200 and say "rgr" then proceed to break off and turn S for home.  I didnt fire a shot at the goon, but the newbie must of augered.  As I am leaving the fight, these 2 boneheads are engageing me no matter my protest on 200.  Needless to say hajo shoots me down.

In my eyes it was a low-down dirty kill on his part.  So I ask you, what would you have done?  Would you break off or keep fighting.  Also, would you allow a warper that disengages to rtb?

I know I did the honorable thing by ending my attack, but im not sure Id do it again.

This may sound cruel, but who cares? Did getting shot down do anything to you? Is your family getting a telegram? No, in fact it was better that way so you could relog and join the fun once again a little quicker.

So, youd also probably kill the warper that broke off too?

I did not watch the scene but was a witness to your ch200 "conversations". To me it seemed just a big misunderstanding. While you did say "rgr" it was not really clear that it was you who was in that warpy Niki. That "rgr" could have been part of another communication on Ch200. So they probably just did not realized you were NOT diving to get their goon.  And I have to admit that with a goon around I would most probably done the same thing as your enemies. "rgr, disengaging, will relog" or similar would have been a bit clearer.
(And a personal remark: calling out names on 200 afterwards does never help to clear up the situation ;) )

So lighten up, itīs just a game, and sometimes things just dont go as we wish they do. Dont take this too seriously!

Yes. How am I supposed to know he's breaking off? Better to kill him then assume he's out of the fight and  he picks you a few seconds later. You broke off your engagment because you felt you were warping and it was an unfair advantage. Thats cool and good mannersin the MA. But dont expect to get a freebie to rtb. Even if you have communicated to the guys you were fighting with that the fights over, it doesnt stop one of their countrymen from trying to kill you. He may not have seen 200 or he doesnt care.

imho, u did right thing by disengaging.  maby was a misunderstanding as far as u getting shot down.  was the warp call a trick maby?  to get u thinking about something else?   dunno.  1 time i called rtb ammo to a jug that just kept on attacking.  no big deal.  thing was, i still had a few cannon left and had to dispatch him.  he then said "i thought u were out of ammo"  oh well.  as for me.  where quarter is asked.  quarter is given.

just S! the person and drive on

Dunno about the Brits Vs the Jerries but the Japanesse certainly conversed with the American pilots, inviting the Corsairs down to lower alt to fight their Zeros
