I keep trying to find an over the top of a 17 photo and I keep coming back to this one from a well known set of photos showing the bombs from the above 17 taking off the tail of the lower.

Anyway, I think it gives a good look at the weathering and streaks on the top of a well worn B17.

did the plane survive?

I have seen some random footage of 17's with missing parts like that, just kinda wondering if that particular plane made it or not.

One book says the crew bailed, another says no chutes seen.

This one, "Nine Yanks and a Rebel" came home.  I've seen film of this one sliding across a formation damaged as it is here.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread Kev :)

oh, she's a beaut kev!

and guppy, how many planes got bombs dropped on them during the 8thAF campaign? seems like a pretty stupid thing to do, but probably quite frequent in 1000 plane formations:lol

Uh Kev, that's the same B-17 I am doing, I believe EP-E of the 100th BG is Our Gal Sal.

Did you call it and I missed it earlier?

Just a minor thing Kev, but it's a pet peeve of mine with the warbrid 17 owners :)

Note in the profile how the OD wrapes around the front of the engine cowl.  It isn't just a straight shot from the leading edge cut off for the OD/Gray.  Also note how the gray goes up to the tail wing.  Can't tell if your OD goes straight back underneath.  I don't know how the AH model works in terms of the engine cowlings so I don't know if it's possible to do that wrap around the front part.

The restored 17 painted as 909 makes that mistake with having the OD cut off on the cowling.
