Seems some players DO have a kamakazi mentality...maybe the only way they CAN get a kill is to collide.

If you get too close to an enemy fighter and shoot it with cannon rounds you may well take damage, but not from the debris, from the explosive effect of your own rounds.

You can test this offline by taking a Tempest and taxiing the nose very close to a building then shooting at it.

I assume that If you make a guns pass on an aircraft, GV or building and get very close while hitting it with cannon rounds the same thing will happen. So if your own cannon rounds can damage you, it would be pretty easy to mistake that for damage from debris.

More importantly, if you are that close to an enemy, but you don't actually collide, and maybe you even get a message saying the other guy collided with you, it may be that you take damage from your own rounds, and it would be an easy mistake to assume you took collision damage. This is probably a big source of confusion and might explain why some people think they are taking damage when they don't collide, but the other plane collides with them.

Saying "the guy that collides with you" is misleading.
I say this because from your point of view (FE) it looks like a guy rammed into you.  You saw him ram into you but his front end did not see him run into you.  Therefore even though you see the guy run into you, you are the one that gets the "You have collided" message because your front end saw the collision.

This very thing happened to me the other day.  I was doing high yo-yo's with this guy and I look to my left and he comes right into my side (his prop slid right behind my left wing and tore right behind my seat).  I got the "you have collided" message because my front end "saw" the two planes collide, his did not.

It might be misleading but not in conflict with what you said if you accept that I meant the guy doing the colliding is the guy that collided with you. :huh This conceptual stuff can cause numbness if your not careful.
