Actually it helped prevent the left wing from stalling during slow speed turns because of the torque generated by the large prop on the F4U.

Errr I think......:(

I was reading in Squadron Signals book on the F4U Corsair that the ealy model F4Us tendancy to to flip the wing up at slow speeds was resolved by a small airfoil or wedge shaped peice of medal on the starboard wing outboard the MGs.

When it said the wing fliped up i thought that that ment folding up?? So hows it going there Shifty?:aok

All you ever need to know...... Airplane 6 was an F4U-1.

From NACA Test Report 829:

By the way, where they show the strip to be located was not where it was installed on production aircraft.

I have looked at a boat load of F4U pictures and just don't see it. Is this information correct? Looking forward to hearing from some Hog heads on this one.
Thanks.

This image was in the new book on the FAA Museum FG1-A Corsair.  It shows the factory installed 'stall block" on their unrestored Corsair.  It also says that it is made of wood.
