I was looking around on the net and ran across a performance analysis somebody did on it...for a game, not sure which. In that talk, he mentions using Mk 103 30mm cannon vice a Mk 108 30mm cannon. Is there truth to that, or was he just speculating? Im assuming it may of been some sort of field mod? dunno.

The MK103 was tried but it had to be modified > shortened as it was too long for it to fit. It was not fitted to production 109s.

Nor were the 15mm MG151's in case you happen to find a source that says the 13mm were replaced by those

IIRC, Galland stated in his book that he tested a 109 with dual 20mm in the cowling but they didn't work properly and nearly shot the propellor off.

BTW Galland had two 109Fs in his diposal which had special weapon arrangement. One had MG FFs in the wings in similar fashion as the E model, and the other had two 13mm MG in the cowling but in much more streamlined "humps" than the 109G6 had.

The MG151s were much larger than the MG131s. To fit them into the cowl position would be a lot of work and they would be very obvious with the barrels protruding.

Well, that doesn't really answer the question if they were tried, as the barrels can be shortened for purpose, althought there is plenty of room between the propellor and cowl gun compartment, but I have never seen any picture of the prototype or know the Wnr of the plane in question. I'd imagine it to have guite a hefty bulges for the ammo feeds so it would be evident from a picture if such plane ever existed. Also the muzzles cannot be near the propellor because of the strain the muzzle blast would cause in the long run.

I could also remember it wrong or Galland was delusional and was actually testing those 131s with bad syncronization...
