You know, I really would be pretty darn interested in hearing how you'd do it.  I'm being serious here...  I'll be a father some day; it could come in handy...  What would you do?  How would you explain it?

Not at all. I just don`t care to go into it with you as it is totaly irrelevant.
At this particular time in your young life, you assume you have most if not all of the answers. We all did.
You will grow out of it about the same time reality starts to set in. :)

When a 17 year old child lies to you in front of a Police office the next step is the Army Recruiters Office.

This burned my arse bad, I raise my children well..peer pressure and she couldn't say no and had my 7 year old Son with her.  She told the police officer that her Mom and Dad cant speak English.  The Police Officer called and asked if I spoke English..hell yeah that and German, Korean, 2 Dialects of Chinesse and a lil Spanish.  My wife is fluent in Korean and English.

So here I am 3:30 in the morning talking to Police, which were cool about the whole thing.  They were gonna put my Daughter in Juvvie and my Son in DHS...

Now here is a Daughter on the National Society Honor Roll, Honor Student and writes for the local Paper her dream is to be a Journalism...she was watching my Son and went to a party that got raided by the Police.

She is beyond grounded....cell phone, car...gone.

It's tough to be a Father at times.

Only words of advice is to let the dust settle a bit.  My bet is she'll be walking the line for quite some time as I bet she's scared to death she's burned all her bridges with you in terms of trust etc.

Overreacting on your part is only going to make it worse.  Sometimes underreacting is much more effective.  She'll probably feel like she's completely failed you for a while.

Yes being a Dad is tough at times, but it's still the most rewarding job in the world and I wouldn't go back and change a thing or avoid one conflict that I had with them as they grew up.  Those tough times always lead to better times.

And this is despite the fact that on the 28th of this month it will be one year from the day my oldest son and youngest girl were killed in a car wreck, I wouldn't not have had them despite the pain of their loss that will never leave.  They could piss me off, but they were the greatest gift I ever had.

My youngest would have been 17 this September.  I'd give anything to have to put up with what your daughter tried to pull with you, because it would mean my daughter was still here and still my little girl.

Just trying to throw a little perspective on it as I head back upstairs to watch a movie with my one surviving daughter.

And yes it's tough to be a father some times.

My son was 16 when he decided he had been 'kidnapped' and taken to Phoenix by 'a friend' (we lived in California at the time) ..

..he was gone for 3 days, no contact at all, a relative called to say he had seen him in Phx and wondered what was goin on.

Wife was worried sick, called the police, hospital .. by the 3rd day she was a wreck.

He shows up back at the house, tells me to my face he was 'kidnapped' ..
..I explained that he no longer lived here. His mom .. my best friend, did not deserve to be put through that 3 days over some dumb-ass kid, son or not. I was dead serious. I did not care if he slept in a dumpster.

Now he's 32, married, a truck driver, ..and ya .. around 21 or so he became someone worth knowing again.

As a parent ..you can 'raise' a kid, teach 'em right from wrong, that you MEAN it when you say STOP when they run up to a curb with traffic just beyond .. but when that kid gets the idea they can do whatever they want without considering any consequences .. yer done.

Just my 2 copper.

-GE (and my daughter was very progressive ..she told my wife and I there was no way she would ever raise a hand to her kids ..not gonna happen .. then she had twins. .. then another. -evil grin- ..ya . . you gotta teach em to react to commands, and saying 'stop' a thousand times just dont cut it when they are runnin towards traffic .. and such)
'The better I shoot ..the less I have to manuever'
-GE
