Sukhoi and RosOboronExport - sanctioned?!
« on: August 06, 2006, 06:56:00 AM »
Did you hear it in the news?

Banned by US government for "supporting Iranian illegal activities".

Sukhoi said that they didn't have any connections with Iran for 8 years.

Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry said that US punishes their own companies. Boeing has a contract with Sukhoi about RRJ (Russian Regional Jet) that has to be cancelled now.

RosOboronExport is a state-owned company that exports defence-related production. They don't have contracts with the US, so they simply said that they are puzzled by this decision.

A Colder War about to begin?

I don't support Putin. I'm on the left side. Conservative-communistic. Enough stealing, mass executions will save the country.

RRJ had one purpose: to make some contracts for our aviation factories. If it failed - then Boeing, MD and Airbus killed another competitor.

Putin has to sponsor RRJ and other airplane production. Otherwise we'll lose the technology. I doubt he'll do it.

It's more than punishing any one company.

The US has very strict regulations on what technology can be exported, and whenever any tech trade is approved it ALWAYS depends on the practices of the other company.  So if (for example) US companies have tech transfer waivers that let them do business with Sukhoi, and then Sukhoi turns around and sells stuff to Iran that US companies are not allowed to sell, then the US has every right to pull the plug on US trade with Sukhoi because it becomes a conduit for tech transfer from the US to Iran through the third party.

The US gets burned on this over and over and over again, so it's nice to see someone get the guts to finally enforce the rules.  They all hate us anyhow, so we have very little to lose by protecting our interests.  We can win the popularity war through complacency and appeasement, but that way lies ruin and loss (evidence - N. Korea nukes).  It's hard to blame the President when he makes the decision that he's not going to go down in history as the President who, through a policy of appeasement, pretty much gave nukes to another nation for free (yea, a Clinton reference).

Although sometimes the enforcement seems selective, it really does make sense if you get past the idiotic and ignorant way the news media reports these things.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Could you please clarify this, because it looks like you're wanting mass executions.

The other thread already went over it. Basically it just prohibits U.S. companies from doing business with the companies overseas b/c of selling ****, etc.

Doesn't really mean anything because of loopholes and smuggling- so wouldn't get too worked up over it.

If you guys start with the so-called capitalists, move on to the communists and quasi-communists, kill all those who've been unable to adapt to the new environment and finish off by taking out those without inititative, you should be set.

This would probably take out half the population, but the rest would have a good base to build on.

Might as well do it properly if you have to do it at all.
