More Scum in the USA!

It sounds like we're missing some information regarding the arrests.  One thing I've learned is that newspapers usually mess the facts up.  Never trust what you read most of the time.  I've worked with some federal agencies and their guidelines are more "broader" than state agencies.  The Homeland Security Act has some interesting laws regarding terrorism.  I wonder if they entered the U.S. legally?

Hmmm...  I hate to say it but..

I am more afraid of people who want to have every single call and cell phone traced and accounted for in some big central government database than I am about anyone buying 1000 cell phones.

or even people using cell phones to make bombs.

If a criminal uses an untraceable cell phone to make criminal calls do you all want every phone traceable?

If a criminal uses it to talk on do you want a trace on all calls?

If someone goes nuts and shoots a bunch of people do you want to make all guns illegal...

Oh wait... some countries allready have..

The panic laws are beloved by all tyrants.

What's the alternative to preventing a bunch of zealots turning the US into a war zone? One in which subways. restaurants, and shopping malls are bombed at will?  If Preemptive actions like those in this report are illegal then what choice do we have but to wait until an attack is carried out?

Perhaps that's what it will take to maintain our liberties. Allow those who would destroy our liberties the freedom to attack. However, will the American people sit back and let the police handle it like other countries already experiencing regular attacks by Islamofacists do? If the attacks continue unabated it will likely mean the eventual expulsion of all muslims thus denying us one of our prized freedoms, that of religion.

Either way, it seems we lose liberty.

why are we afraid of cell phones?   How do 1000 cell phones threaten me?

Should we not be more afraid of the internet?   Would we not be a lot more safe if the internet were controled by the government?

Phones are used to detonate bombs. Do you not consider that activity worthy of investigation? I'm sure these guys will be released if nothing else can be tied to them. They'll likely be watched for a while though. If we stop watching for suspicious activity we will be caught by surprise. I might be willing to endure that for a while but I have little doubt it would eventually result in even peace loving American muslims bearing the wrath of angry Americans.

if you live in US, there is no problem to build remote device to detonate bomb using electronic parts you can purchase in any electronic part store, RC store....
Using plans from internet.

Whats make you think somone would expose himself and buy 1000 phones at once. Terrorists are not so dumb, propaganda let you think they are.

I dunno.

"The mobile phone cards that were used to detonate the bombs on the trains were allegedly traced to his mobile phone shop in Madrid."

alarm clocks can be used to detonate bombs... computers can be used to  detonate bombs... just about anything can.

I am maybe missing the point?

The point is that cell phones have recently been used to detonate terrorist bombs. Buying a thousand phones deserves a bit of scrutiny, that's all.

BTW, they only bought 80 at that Walmart.

"The three men allegedly bought 80 by purchasing them three at time so that an alert wouldn't be triggered by the cash register. They also paid cash."

Britannica is alive and well in Texas.
It is also legal to brew your own beer in Texas for personal consumption.

Not so sure about Britannica being alive and well anywhere. I had a 1984 leather bound set in excellent condition I couldn't give away for years. Most have computers nowadays. Are bound encyclopedias obsolete?

Yea, like most everything these days it`s either online, on CD or both, such as Brittanica.
Sort of hate to say it, but I think kids these days are missing out on some very interesting things. Everything is instant. I enjoyed the bound versions of the encyclopedias I had as a kid. I used to just grab a section and start prowling around. Was a lot of fun.
