F6F, My new love :)
« on: August 19, 2006, 02:12:17 PM »
After reading widewing's post on the hellkitty last month, thought i'd give it a try for a while. Took me a few days to get used to it, adjusting to 50 cals and such, but im really loving it now, had more success in it than any other plane ever lol, think i have 45/6 kills to deaths which, for me is quite the achievement, and that isnt B n Z either, plain furballing.

Would love to find a few other kitty pilots and do some DA training with me sometime :)

Drop by the TA on a weeknight and we can practice all you wish. I'm usually in there no later than 9 PM Eastern US time, but can get in about an hour earlier if you prefer. Usually present during early evening are Murdr, REN and several MA regulars. There'll be lots of opportunities for furballing.

switched from the F4Us to the Hellcat a couple of days ago. I just wanted to try it out......I havent got out of it except for a couple of sorties.... My K/D sucks in general but its 2/1 in the hellcat...... its a beast.

The Hellcat gets my nod of approval, on the rare moment you find me out of my 38 you might catch me in a Hellcat, i feel like less dead meat in that thing. ;) :p

And after you get comfortable in the HellCat ... jump into the WildCat (FM2).

Do not listen to slapshot. The FM2 sucks.

FM-2 would be as sweet a ride as you could get if you could only strap some RATOs to it.

But I'll stick with my F4U.

Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I like the FM-2, it's a great deal of fun. However, once it gets slow the F6F will gobble it up. You can point to the FM-2's poor turn rate. It can turn very small circles, but it does so slowly, taking 5 seconds more than the F6F to turn a complete circle. That is a huge difference, and the Wildcat's 25 foot smaller turn radius is insufficient to offset the rate differential.

What hurts the FM-2 is that its supercharger does not kick in below 5,000 feet, which results in zero power increase using WEP. Above 5k and below 13,000 feet, the added power of WEP increases the turn rate, and the FM-2 equalizes things over that altitude range. However, the F6F is significantly faster. Naturally, if no flaps are used, the FM-2 holds the edge at any altitude. However, a smart Hellcat pilot will dump flaps and give the FM-2 all it can handle.

I love the FM2. for quick action defending a base or cv I pick the FM2 because sad to say, once the wheels are up its a full speed lol. so you might as well start turning.....
